Who are we?
CLOG (Central London Outdoor Group) is a friendly outdoor activity group for people living in and around London. We are happy to welcome anyone who enjoys walking and exploring our wonderful countryside
we are a membership organisation. Most people attending events will be paid-up members but there are often a couple of prospective members from Meetup also trying out the group
you’re welcome to attend up to three events for free. Most day walks and social events are free; you normally have to be a paid-up member to go on trips away
after that we ask that you pay the subscription and become a full member. Our modest membership subscription includes some food & drink at social events and pays for our running costs
new members get the first year half-price at a bargain £15 for the entire year which is just over £1 per month (normal annual membership is £30). You can join at http://www.membermojo.co.uk/clog
unlike many other Meetup groups, CLOG only has a single membership charge. Furthermore, given that there is inevitably at least one (usually more) walk each week, this makes it a much more cost-effective option as that's less than £1 per walk if you go on a walk every week or even every fortnight On the other hand, even if you only go on about 5 walks over a year, you will still get your money's worth back.
our members are of all ages, from all walks of life and of many different nationalities
we are a non-profit-making club which was founded in 1937. We originally organised walking weekends staying in cheap accommodation such as youth hostels. Today our trips stay in a variety of accommodation
more information is on our website: http://www.clog.org.uk/
Fully paid-up members receive the following benefits:
trips away; priority always goes to paid-up members
only a selection of events are posted on Meetup
advance notice of walks and trips
a “hotline” email summarising the forthcoming week’s events
discounts in outdoor gear shops
our newsletter, which is published every few months
a group discount if organising a trip to a YHA hostel
tips on how to organise walks, trips and social events
the chance to put something back in if you want to. All our events are led voluntarily by our members
How many of us are there?
you’re welcome to join us and you can just turn up, but if you tell us you’re coming we can look out for you; no need to let us know if you don't intend to join us
day walks normally attract 10-20 people; most existing members just turn up rather than say they’re coming
How to find us
most of our walks start from railway stations. We often meet near the ticket office at a London mainline station
look out for people dressed as if they’re going on a walk (the leader may have a map!) and ask around for CLOG (Central London Outdoor Group) if you’re not sure who we are
some members join the train at stations along the way or drive to the start of the walk. If you can’t find us, get on the train and meet us at the destination station
Our walks programme includes:
day walks near London, mostly at weekends
weekend trips to hills and mountains (eg the Lake District, Snowdonia)
longer holidays even further afield (eg Ireland, Scotland, France, Italy, Croatia etc)
We also arrange social events in London, including:
monthly themed social gatherings
cinema, theatre and gallery visits
pub and restaurant events
