Maryland Book Bank

The Maryland Book Bank has provides new and gently used children's books to disadvantaged families in Baltimore. Their goal is to spark family reading at home by making sure there are plenty of books available.

Volunteers are needed to help organize books at the Book Bank. On days when the weather is favorable, volunteer organizers at the Book Bank often arrange for volunteers to work outdoors!

This event has been very popular with volunteers who work with children. An extra benefit of sorting books for the Maryland Book Bank is the nostalgia trip you'll experience when you see books that you just might remember from your childhood...!

For those who are interested, we may go to lunch at a nearby restaurant after this event.

How to find the warehouse:

The Book Bank is located at the rear entrance of The Baltimore Sun warehouse complex, where parking is available for all volunteers.

The Book Bank can be difficult to find, so be sure to follow the directions at

The rear entrance on Guilford Road is a locked gate. In order to gain entrance, you will need to use the intercom on the left side of the gate and tell the guard that you're a volunteer for Maryland Book Bank.  In case the guard is not at the desk, we'll post a phone number for the Book Bank staff, who will come out to open the gate.

One of our volunteers has made a short YouTube video (about 1 minute in length) that might help you find the warehouse.  The video starts at the intersection of  N. Calvert St. and E. Centre St., goes through the back entrance gate on Guilford Ave, and ends at the door of the Book Bank warehouse.   This video can be found at .

Sorry for the last minute cancellation. Woke up with a scratchy throat and don't want to pass any germs off to anyone. Hope you all enjoy.

I may be late getting there.

As a long time patron of the Trinacria deli, I can attest that anything at the restaurant should be tasty. Would love to try it.

For anyone who's interested in lunch after the event, I recently saw a pretty good review for Trinacria Italian Cafe:

It's a short walk from the Book Bank, and it appears to be open for lunch on Saturdays (which is not always the case in that area).

Also, it's ArtScape weekend, so a couple streets will be closed and traffic might get difficult.

Reminder: The MD Book Bank warehouse can be tricky to find if you've never been there before. Don't forget to review the driving directions in the event info, under the section labeled "How to find the warehouse".

Also, please remember to update your RSVPs if you can't make it on Saturday.

Lots of volunteers signed up for a summer weekend! Don't forget to update your RSVP if you can't make it, so that we can provide an accurate volunteer estimate to the Book Bank.
