Darwin Day Celebration For Science Education

  • Feb 9, 2013 · 7:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Welcome COUNT members.  Darwin Day is a celebration of science and reason held on or around February 12th, the birthday of evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin.  We are planning a special event to celebrate Darwin Day early and collect some scientific educational material to be donated to the patients and families staying at the Ronald McDonald House.

As well, this is a great opportunity for our newly formed group to have some fun, mingle, and get to know each other.  This event will be RSVP because of somewhat limited space.  Please RSVP here on meetup.com.  Even if you are unable to attend, please consider still donating to this cause.

How you can help:

1. Donate a science themed book.

We will be collecting new or gently used books science themed books that are appropriate for children 0-18. A list of suggested books will be provided, but please feel free to purchase any books you think would be appropriate.

2.  Donate Money.

Donated money will be used to purchase new and gently used science books.

We will be labeling the inside of the books donated by COUNT members and include our meetup address.  The goal is to reach out to people and show them how important the Non Theist community is, as well as provide educational material to enjoy.  We want to show that you can be Good without God!

The Ronald McDonald House hosts families of children who are patients at Children's Hospital. The volunteer coordinator is very excited about COUNT being involved with their organization and has offered a group tour of the facility when we drop off the donated books.

Special Note:  Although Hors d'oeuvres and Soft Drinks will be provided, this is a BYOB event.

Volunteerism is limited for this event because of the time frame, however if there is anything you would like to help with (clean-up, set-up, or bringing an hors d'oeuvre) Please feel free to call Barbara Chester at[masked]-6128.

As well, please feel free to do some after event volunteering for the labeling/delivery of the books.

Lets show the world that we COUNT!!
