Hike the Deschutes River at Steelhead Falls

This is a very pretty hike along the Deschutes River on a trail located east of Terrebonne. The trail takes our group along the east bank of the Deschutes River where we will pass Steelhead Falls and continue on to an area where our dogs can take a dip in the river far away from swift water and rapids.

Here's some more info on Steelhead Falls.

http://www.bendbulletin.com/news/1399243-151/steelhead-falls#

PLEASE be aware that we will have to do some pretty tricky rock/boulder scrambling for about 35-40 yards before we reach our destination. So if you or your dog find rock scrambling a challenge, this hike may not be for you. Please keep this in mind.

This hike is also listed in the Bend Overall book on page 184 in the[masked]nd edition.

No dog leash rules here.  Just be aware and keep an eye out for folks on bicycles and other hikers on the trail who may or may not be dog lovers!

Out of 11 folks who came on this hike there were just 5 of us who managed to get over the 50 yard rock scramble to reach our goal, a pretty spot with the calmest of clear waters where our dogs could delight in swimming in the beautiful Deschutes River. Way to go, you hardcore hiking enthusiasts, Chris, Karen, Judy & Scott for your courage and enthusiasm to make it all the way!

Thanks for encouraging us, it wasn't difficult but after the lost dog start, I might have turned around! Perfect weather day!

Can't join this one, but for future reference still trying to determine if it's east or west of Terrebonne.

Sorry you're not feeling well, Karen. I'll try to get another hike up soon so we can enjoy the beautiful Central Oregon wildflowers before they're gone!

The National Weather Service forecast for Steelhead Falls on Sunday calls for: "Sunny skies, with a high near 67. Light and variable wind becoming east around 5 mph in the afternoon." Looks like perfect weather for our hike!

Hi my dog Bella can be a bit alpha or sm dog syndrome. I think this could be to many dogs for her so I will try for another hike. and free a spot for someone.

The scrambling part got to me. I'm not much good at it and that's too bad because my partner Gary is a mountaineer and can climb anything around here! I'm a bit handicappped with one bad eye and am better at easy hikes. Sorry to miss this one, it sounds great. Maybe Gary and Dolly, the yellow lab in our lives, can join without me or maybe I can wait while you all do the scrambling. We'll get together with your group one of these days!

Hey Dog Lovers, I failed to mention in my description of this hike that down river from the falls we will have to do some pretty tricky rock/boulder scrambling for about 35-40 yards before we reach our destination. So if you or your dog find rock scrambling a challenge, this hike may not be for you. Please keep this in mind.

Working every weekend for the next couple of months but looking forward to my schedule changing in mid-late June so I'll at least have every other weekend free. Enjoy, and I'll catch up with everyone later this summer.
