Next books and meeting update...

Hello all,

Our inaugural meeting this past week went well! In addition to a lively and thoughtful discussion (about the July book), we also decided on the next several months of books - and adjusted the time for the December meeting.

First, re: the December meeting, as you know we normally meet in the 3rd Wednesday of the month. However, in December that Wed., 12/21, is too close to potential holiday events and/or travels. So, the December meeting will be on 12/7, same time/same place (Books Inc on Market St, 6.30pm) -- Books Inc already has another bookclub there on 12/14.

Second, a "heads up" that the selection for October will be a longer work than usual, Proust's In Search of Lost Time, Volume I only -- called "Swan's Way" -- and be sure to order the Penguin Classics version as it is known as being a more accessible translation. It is suggested that members begin reading this **at least** a full month or more ahead of the meeting.

Third, below is a list of all the books selected through December:

8/17 - A Handful of Dust by Evelyn Waugh

9/21 - Ironweed by William Kennedy

10/19 - Proust's In Search of Lost Time, Volume I only -- called "Swan's Way" -- be sure to order the Penguin Classics version

11/16 - Atonement by Ian McEwan

12/7 - Native Son by Richard Wright

Fourth, our host, Books Inc on Market St has ordered at least five of all of the above if you want to purchase books there. The "Classic Lit" bookclub gets a discount. Just call ahead to make sure the books are in: 415-864-6777.

Happy reading and I look forward to the next meeting!
