Frequently Asked Questions:
Do you need any help with set-up? Set-up is usually done for us, thank you.

Can I host a game night? Sure, just let us know. You can set a cap on how many people can RSVP as well.

What other gaming opportunities are there in Central Texas? Great Hall games does open gaming on Friday nights from about 7:30 till around midnight. It's a very friendly group. Great Hall also does games on Saturdays around noon in conjunction with the Austin Boardgame Group. If you live near 2222 and Lamar, you should definitely check it out. Wonko's Toys & Games, located at 183 and Lake Creek Pkwy (down from Alamo Drafthouse), has open gaming on Wednesday evenings when it is not hosting a competitive Geek Game Night (see Geek Game Night). The Austin Setters of Catan Meetup Group also meets once or twice a month at Dragon's Lair near Burnet and 2222. Finally, Boards & Brews meets nearly every Tuesday at the Rockin' Tomato on South Lamar, sharing a venue with the South Austin Gaming Group. There are many fun gamers and fun games at that meetup.

Are there any rules to the games? Don't be mean to people. Try not to start a game you can't finish. I guess we are all adults so there are no official rules, but the golden rule is always nice. Don't be a bad loser or a bad winner and we'll get along fine.

I've never heard of all of these games. Where can I learn more? You'll learn a lot about them at the meetup. You'll see certain games that interest you because of the theme or maybe because of the "bits"--the components of the game. Eventually you might start gravitating toward certain designers of games if you have enjoyed other of their games. is a great site to learn, though it can be a little overwhelming at first.

A gentleman on the Internet has a video introduction to boardgames that is very good as well. Check it out. It's called Boardgames with Scott and you might see a lot of games you want to try there.

Where can I get some of these games?
There are lots of places to get them locally including Great Hall Games, Wonko's and Dragon's Lair. Kaleidoscope Toys in Round Rock has some of the educational games. Ebay is a a great place to find some games if you know what you are looking for. Many of us buy most of our games online at sites like Timewellspent, Gamesurplus, and BoardsandBits.
