HOMESTEADING: MANAGING A RABBITRY
This three-day course will explore sustainable livestock as part of a homestead, whether it is backyard growing or on a larger scale. Learn about all aspects of raising rabbits, whether for breeding, assisting compost production, or a sustainable meat source.
This course will cover:
Housing and nests for rabbits
Colony housing vs. hutches
How rabbits fit into a homestead
Productive values of rabbits
Humane harvesting techniques
Preservation methods for meat
Full usage of the harvest: sausage, bone broth, pelt, etc.
Tanning of the pelts - start to completion
Date: January 27 - 29th, 2017.
*There will be working lunches. Bring a sack lunch if you wish or you can visit local restaurants about 10 minutes from the school on break.
Class Size: Limited to 12
Location: The Human Path Outdoor Campus, San Antonio
Tuition: $175, includes handouts and working materials.

Gear List: The class will be both indoors (for lecture) and outdoors under the protected pole barn. Make sure to dress for the weather. We recommend close-toed shoes and clothing you don't mind getting dirty, as well as a box of your own latex or nitrile gloves. A more detailed gear list will go out two weeks prior to this class.
Also recommended: bring water and snacks.
Class Credit: For those completing the Provider program, this 3-day class counts as one Animal Husbandry elective credit.
