Richmond National Battlefield Park in May and June 2014 will commemorate the events of May - June 1864 collectively called The Overland Campaign. This momentous period in our nation's history that was played out in close proximity to Richmond will be presented via a range of activities, living history demonstrations, National Park Service ranger-led tours of battlefield landscapes, lectures, discussions and multimedia presentations.
This Meetup is one of those events.
This kick off the 150th anniversary events will be an overview of the Overland Campaign, and you will also learn about upcoming special events for the anniversaries of Totopotomoy Creek, Cold Harbor, and Fort Harrison. Both sides had high hopes in the spring of 1864. What were commanders on both sides thinking? What was at stake? What was happening on the home front? How was warfare changing?
