Further, "The Library of Virginia acquires, preserves, and promotes access to unique collections of Virginia’s history and culture. With more content and research moving online, they seek to make digital documents as accessible as possible by crowd-sourcing this massive historical project. Crowd-sourcing empowers communities to make their own history and you can be a part of it.
Volunteers will transcribe handwritten pages by reading the written text and typing it into digital form. They will also review other transcriptions for accuracy. Those with an editing eye can eventually learn to be an advanced editor. Participate in enhancing access to collections of over 400 years of Virginia history, people, and culture. From peace to wartime, court records to letters home, and conspiracies to political statements, there will be something for everyone. These include documents from the Civil War, African American narratives, and Patrick Henry's executive letters. Help us tell the narrative of all Virginians – the famous, infamous and even anonymous – and join us in Making History.
Parking is available under the building, with entrances on 8th and 9th streets and will be validated at the end. Twelve computer stations will be available. If you have your own laptop, please bring it!"
Registration with Library of Virginia is REQUIRED! Limited Spaces. Get Wait a Listed, if necessary. You will receive email of status.
