Greetings fellow Javascript Enthusiasts!

This Wednesday (August 19th) we'll be having a CVJS Meetup from 6:00pm-8:00pm. The topic is going to be WebRTC with Arin Sime from leading the conversation.

Willowtree is located just off the downtown mall, past Commonwealth, across from The Cat House, at 107 5th Street SE. Charlottesville, VA 22902 There is paid parking in the garage and metered lots nearby, or it is usually easy to find free parking on Garrett St a block away. We'll have pizza down on the first floor, and then eventually migrate upstairs to a conference room for the presentation.

Please RSVP on the CVJS Meetup Event Page to increase the probability that I purchase exactly the right amount of pizza, down to the very slice. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Certainly difficult to predict what anyone will do, most of all Apple. But I think there are enough ports of WebRTC to iOS libraries from companies like TokBox and Respoke that you can still build WebRTC apps with a mobile component even if Apple never gets in the game. It's not pure WebRTC at that point perhaps, but the users don't care if it's pure. So while I think the author is overly pessimistic, I also think it doesn't matter too much.

Thanks everyone for the great conversation last night, I really enjoyed talking with you all. Great questions! Here are a few links from the presentation:

@Arin Wonderful presentation last night! Thanks to you, Willow Tree, and Michael for making it happen.

Any chance of recording and posting on YouTube? Unfortunately, I can't make it.

I'll bring another attendant with me, if that is OK. Thank you very much!

Venue is confirmed! See everyone there, looking forward to it.

Hey we are getting this lined up for August (probably 19th, maybe 12th). Arin is going to lead the conversation, and Lucas may fill us in on his experiences with OpenTok. If anyone else wants to share, let us know! As always we'll open the floor near the end for anyone who wants to present something casually.

I would be happy to give a talk about this - at the train station now waiting to go to NYC to give a similar talk! Let's make it happen.

When is your next time through Cville? Would be great to hear what the lay of the land is. Alternatively, we can do something virtually.

Doing a talk about WebRTC over WebRTC, so meta and great idea!

We'd be happy to host. I know that its been a while since this was posted. I'm also new to this group (as well as Charlottesville). Arin, are you still interested in giving a talk?

I'm still interested, but it would be a lot more difficult to coordinate at this point unfortunately since I've moved to Costa Rica with my company AgilityFeat. I come back to Cville on occasion so it's possible we could coordinate something next year with one of those trips but I don't know my travel schedule yet. That probably means rather than me being a pain, you shouldn't plan around me unless you wanted to try something virtual.

No worries. Probably best in person. If there's interest from others, we may still want to find other topics.

When and where is the next meeting?

    April 16, 2014

Next meetup is "JS is Dead, Long Live JS? Transpile w/ TypeScript, Coffeescript, & friends" at the Center for Open Science - next Wednesday (Apr 23), 6PM

      April 16, 2014

  • Gilman C.

Agreed - great topic. There is so much going on in the space at the moment. I'd love to hear about the spectrum of similar but distinct technologies (SSE,Websockets, etc) but each could probably be a talk on it's own.

    April 10, 2014

  • Owen Z.

Arin Sime would be a great speaker for this topic. His consultancy Agility Feat publishes a weekly new newsletter about realtime web and he has also given a number of talk on the subject.
