Come on out for some cycling fun!

This time we've got something a little different. There will be a Score-O course set up and you go out on a mountain bike! There will also be a beginner course for both foot and bike. See below for more course details.

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

Starts: Start any time between noon and 2:00 pm. (Everybody must be back to the start no later than 3:30 pm.) Feel free to arrive any time after 11:45 am.

Cost: Maps are $5 each.

Location: Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield County, off of Beach Road. Go in the main entrance and follow the orienteering signs to the former Civilian Conservation Corps camp which is on the main park road a little ways in on your right. The park has a $7 parking fee.

Bike helmets are required for all cyclists.

As always, instruction will be available for beginners or those who would like some help to get started.

Bring your own compass, or borrow one of ours (on a first-come basis). Be prepared to leave car keys or an ID as a deposit when borrowing.

Dress appropriately for the weather and for travel both on & off trail. Water, sunscreen, and bug spray are also good ideas to bring along.

Feel free to post comments or contact one of the organizers if you have any questions!

*** Our meets wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers. Please consider offering some of your time at this or another upcoming meet. ***

Meet Details:

Courses will be:

- A 90-minute Score-O course which can be done on bike or on foot.

A Score-O is a course with all control locations shown on your map and you try to find as many as you can within the time limit, in any order that you feel is the best route. This is where good decision-making can give you an advantage over people who can run or ride faster!

You'll have 90 minutes to complete your course and get back to the start/finish. Each control will have varying point values (5, 10 or 15 points) based on difficulty and distance, but you'll lose 1 point for every 1 minute that you go over the 90-minute limit, so be sure to have some way to track your time while you're out there. There will be enough control locations that most people won't find them all in the allotted time!

Biking will be on fire roads with some trails. Mountain bikes or hybrids are recommended for this event.
