It's time to get on the water!

For our September meet we've got something a little different. We will be doing a Paddle-O, which is a course that you complete in either a kayak or canoe. Take note that you may have to get out of your boat for some controls.

BYOB (Bring your own boat) - Bring your own kayak or canoe to complete the course.

*** *** *** *** *** *** *** *** ***

STARTS: Start any time between 11:00am and 1:00 pm. (Everybody must be back to the start no later than 3:00 pm., so be sure to have some way to track your time while you're out there.)

BOATS: Canoes or kayaks will work well for this event. Bring your own, as there will not be any available for rental this time. No paddling instruction will be provided.

LOCATION: The boat launch is in Colonial Heights' White Bank Park (http://www.colonialheightsva.gov/facilities/facility/details/White-Bank-Park-38) while the water we will be paddling on is Chesterfield County's Swift Creek Conservation Area (https://www.chesterfield.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Swift-Creek-Conservation-Area-92).

COST: Maps are $5 each.

OTHER:
As always, orienteering instruction will be available for beginners or those who would like some help to get started.

Bring your own compass, or borrow one of ours (on a first-come basis). Be prepared to leave car keys or an ID as a deposit when borrowing.

Dress appropriately for the weather and for boating. You should also dress to be prepared in case you get wet. Water and sunscreen are good ideas to bring along.

Note: PFDs/life jackets are required to be worn & zipped while on the water.

Feel free to post comments or contact one of the organizers if you have any questions.

Be sure to answer the instruction and map questions when you RSVP! This really helps us with planning.

*** Our meets wouldn't be possible without the help of volunteers. Please consider offering some of your time at this or another upcoming meet. ***

Course Details: There will be one 20-point Score-O course. A Score-O is a course with all control locations shown on your map and you find them in any order that you feel is the best route. There is a 2 hour time limit, with penalties imposed for going over time.
