Building Cedar Strip Kayaks

Gerry Bouchard from Troy, Vermont will bring a couple of the most beautiful, intricate cedar strip kayaks to the lecture series. Gerry documented the process from start to finish and has the photos to show us. He'll tell us how we could build our own boat with just some simple tools.

Modesty 101 maybe. lol . Thank you for all the great comments. It was a pleasure to do a presentation for such a dedicated group of paddlers. I think it is a great idea to start a talk about boat building network. I would participate to that. I enjoyed the evening a lot. Again Thank You. Gerry

Gerry's kayaks are works of art. He is very modest about his skills but even Nick Schade designer of Gerry's Guillemot Kayaks, doesn't build them this intricate. All 3 boats have their own custom character. This was an event well worth attending to see these boats up close. Hope we see Gerry and his kayaks at some club paddling events this summer.

I agree with Mike. Gerry mentioned what he did was woodworking 101, I said to him yes if the first class is #1. Beautiful kayaks Gerry, thanks for the presentation.

It was great to the chance to see the kayaks and listen Gerry talk about his builds. It seems we have a lot of interest in building boats. If other are interested maybe we start our own little on going talks about building. I have a few books that I would be willing to let people read. Let me know what you think about starting building network.

I started building a wood strip kayak in Oct 2011. Hoping to have it done this May. Hoping to pick up some tips for the home stretch.

Hi all of you Lake Champlain kayakers! And thanks for keeping me in the loop. I just want you to know that I appreciate being part of this group even if I am more absent than present. I really look forward to joining in the activities as soon as I get up to Vermont.
