Watch Burlington fireworks from the water.

Since the fireworks are after dark, you will obviously need a light. There will be lots of boats around the harbor, but there are lots of police and coast guard patrolling, so they are pretty well behaved and most are on moorings for the night.
Note: burlington parks charge for parking.

i got to test my new whistle and my fog horn after the finale!

I'll warn you if you blow that whistle hard it hurts your ears (mine anyway). I only do that if I already have fingers or plugs in. Maybe a neoprene hood would do it.

What a most beautiful evening I have spent on the fabulous 3rd of July. Greatest company, and inspiring little waves, and a spectacular show, all in a wonderful environment. Thank you all for making it possible for us.

We continued our lucky streak of fine weather on rainy days!
It was a little light on the "boat candy" (hugely expensive boats to gawk at) compared to some years.

Too bad I couldn't record in surround sound. I could feel the thumps in my feet inside the kayak.

I am here, and waiting it out. We might have a wonderful seeing. Blue sky at the moment. Things change, Mother Earth at work.

good company, live music and lots of people watching. Great firework display, esp. from close up on the water. Very quiet and safe paddle back to the put in. Plenty of police presence to keep it safe.

I just came from Williston 20 minutes ago where rain was coming down pretty hard and now no rain in So. Burlington now but cloudy. Talked with someone on the phone down at the waterfront and they said they see blue sky. What to do??? I'm waiting it out to see if it clears up a bit more. Maybe the rain is headed east.

I may have to bail on Weds. as I have a new-to-me car that has crossbars on the factory rack that are incompatible with my Thule kayak fittings. May take more than a few days to order what's needed and likely won't happen before tomorrow, so if I make it I will be amazed - but enjoy and be safe out there!

    July 2, 2013

I'll be traveling on Wed and may not get back in time.
There is an area around the fireworks barge that the police will be clearing sometime before dark.. try to stay ahead of the game on that one.

Unless I am totally daffy which is always a possibility I see 2 paddles listed for Wed July 3 both leaving from 2 different spots at 6 pm. Am I misreading this?

    June 23, 2013

    • ray g.

you are not totally daffy! Go see the fireworks!

Gong back to shel bay would add 4-5 miles to the return trip if you want to hug the shore. That would put you back at the ramp around midnight depending how fast you paddle in the dark. Getting back to Oakledge is about 20 minutes(?) 6 should be ok for getting in at Oakledge. Don't panic about being ready to launch then as we've got lots of time once you're in the park.

    • ray g.

ok. My only concern was finding a parking place for my beast!

      June 20, 2013

  • Ruth M.

I've gone out of Oakledge many times for 3rd of July. They let you unload your boat by the bathroom next to the launch and then go park your car in the field just down the road. You do need to be organized and quick about it. Does cost $. Also, when heading back after dark, found it much safer to be near shore to reach Oakledge than compete out in the open water with all the power craft racing to get back to Shelburne Bay. Even the sailboats are motoring to get back to LCYC and the shipyard moorings. They are hurrying, and often have been drinking. I stick closer to shore where no one under power will get close to me. I bring lights to insure they can make out at least some sort of craft in their rush to get home. By the time you return to Oakledge, most of the cars have departed and car-retrieval and reloading of boats is easy.

Not sure about the location as far as parking. What time should we get there to find a parking place? Would shelburne bay be better?
