The idea for this meetup came from me seeing this project from Barkbox a year ago. And I’ve seriously been wanting to make a dog pillow ever since. You don’t need a pet to make these pillows though. You can do any animal, or use any image or photograph for that matter. Here are some examples:
Ok, anyone else find those face pillows hilarious yet slightly disturbing?
What: Making Personalized Photo Transfer Pillows
When: Wednesday, May 7th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
Where: Jo-Ann Crafts in West Ashley (Craft Room in the middle towards the back of the store)
1- Image-Printed Fabric (we'll give these out at Jo-Ann)
2- Sewing Machine w/thread (bring yours or use one for free at Jo-Ann)
3- Pillow Stuffing (bring some or buy some at Jo-Ann, you won’t need a whole bag so 2-3 people can probably split a bag)
4- Fabric (if you’re going to be using fabric for the back of your pillow. Bring some or buy some at Jo-Ann)
5- Interfacing (if you want to add a bit more structure to your pillow. Bring some or buy some at Jo-Ann. People can split this as well)
6- Iron (Rosemary is bringing one, can 1-2 other people bring one if they have a decent one?)
Cost: $5 per photo transfer sheet used. Even if you need to purchase additional supplies (stuffing or interfacing), each pillow should come out to be about $10 or less.
1- Pick out a photograph or image(s) that you want to use. We’ll be using photo transfer sheets that are 12” x 18” so you'll need to decide if you’d like to have your image take up that entire space or if you’d rather have more than one image per sheet (thus making smaller-sized pillows).
2- Once you have your image(s), email them to Rosemary at [masked] by end of the day Saturday, the 3rd. Let her know the following:
a. How many total pillows you’re planning to make.
b. The size(s) (whether you want to take up the entire photo transfer sheet or if you’re fitting 2+ images on one sheet).
c. If you’re going to need to do a mirror image for the back of the pillow (you’re not using regular fabric for the back). Note this is an additional cost since you’re using another sheet.
d. Colors – Do you want a colored print? Black & White? Or tinted with a color (like the green pillow or the animals above)?
Note: All photos will be printed on white fabric. So depending on the size of your image, you may have a white background or border.
Again, you’ll need to email Rosemary your images no later than end of the day Saturday (May 3rd) to give her enough time to get all of images transferred to fabric.
Since Rosemary is being really awesome and putting her own personal time/effort into this, as well as fronting the cost of the fabric, please only RSVP if you know 100% you can make it.
Oh, and you don't need to be an expert sewer. This is a very beginner project so it'd probably be ok for you even if you've never used a sewing machine.
I know this is a lot of info but this is going to be a really fun and easy project! Just let me or Rosemary know if you have any questions!
