SNP Rip Rap Trail with optional climb to Chimney Rocks, 3 or 6.5 miles.

Details

What can be better than a cool mountain stream swimming hole on a hot August day? We will start this hike from the Valley side to minimize the climbs in anticipation of hot weather. After a 1.5 mile hike with 400 feet of elevation gain, we will stop at a clear, cool swimming hole for a dip or swim. Those who want to get a more strenuous workout can continue up the Rip Rap Trail along Rocks Mountain to Chimney Rock which will add another 1100 feet of elevation with under 2 more miles of hiking. Chimney Rock has a lovely view of the Shenandoah Valley, Paine Run & Lefthand Hollows and Horsehead Mountain. We will retrace to rejoin the swimming hole group, dip in again as needed, and then return to the cars. Post hike food and drink option at nearby Stablecraft Brewing, https://www.stablecraftbrewing.com.

For those coming from Charlottesville meet at Albemarle High School front parking lot at 9am. Note the earlier meeting time at AHS.
