Blue Buns Campout!

Are you Tubing or Kayaking down the River with us on Saturday?

Don't go home! Camp out overnight afterwards at Chilhowie campground!

After we get off the river it's a long ride back to Chattanooga and an even longer ride back to Atlanta! So I like to camp out after the trip and enjoy a campfire and cookout. (Also - feel free to come out on Friday and camp - I'll be out there on Friday afternoon!) Chilhowie has lots of hiking trails and a great lake for swimming!

DAY: Friday the 23rd to Sunday the 25th (This is Memorial Day weekend. Hopefully you get Monday off!) I will actually go up on Thursday (May 22nd) afternoon to get sites. Last year it was quite crowded that weekend so I'm going up early.

WHERE: Chilhowie Campground up on top of Chilhowie mountain!

DIRECTIONS: Leaving the Hiwassee Outfitters, turn left and take State Rd. 30 south about 8.5 miles to Highway 64. Turn right onto 64 and go 2.1 miles to the Forest Rd. 77. Turn Right at the sign and go 7.3 miles to the Campground entrance. Drive down past the Loop A and B and turn left into the CDEF loop entrance. Look for my Red Trailer! Find us and find a site!

INFO: Chilhowie is your standard National Forest campground but larger than most with 79 sites. They have tent pads, picnic table, fire rings, and grills. It has flush toilets and hot water showers! Since there are a large number of sites and an overflow area I will not put a limit on attendees. But it is first come first served and it was full by Friday at noon.

OTHER: This camp out will be bring your own food. If you want to cook and share it's up to you. Also, if you can, throw a couple of pieces of firewood in your car. If you want a campfire you'll need the wood and there's usually not a lot of wood sitting around at campgrounds like this.

Cost: Chilhowie is not free. It's $12 per site per night.

Let me know if you have any questions or need any help! CAN'T WAIT TO SEE YOU ALL THERE!!!!!

I'll update here with the campsite numbers tomorrow. Cell phone service is limited so post any questions here.

I plan to be there Friday evening. Plus I'll camp Saturday and Sunday. I have my own kayak so I'll be using that. You mentioned the camp sites are full by noon Friday, are you saying that if I'm not there by the afternoon, more than likely there will be no campsites.

No I mean all the campsites will be taken by Friday. But I will have gotten there to reserve about 4 sites. Each site can usually accommodate at least 3 tents. So there should be room for everyone to pitch their tents.
