Paddle Rock Hall Pirates and Wenches Fantasy Weekend

(RSVP's For This Event Open Sunday, July 21 at 9:00 PM)

Arrrgh, Me Maties, paddle with us for a fun filled day the likes of which are rarely seen at the 6th annual Rock Hall Pirates & Wenches Fantasy Weekend on Saturday August 10, 2013.  This festival won the "Best of the Bay" award in the waterfront events category for 2012.  With homes, shops and parks all appropriately attired for the event, the town of Rock Hall goes pirate crazy with everything from on going live music and street performers to Caribbean style pirate beach parties.  Whether ye be a pirate or a wench, drop oars in the water with us at this contagiously fun filled event.

We will be launching from Spring Cove Landing promptly at 10:30 AM.  This is the on the water time.  Please arrive with plenty of time to have your boat and gear ready to paddle by then.  Remember to take into consideration that you have to cross the Bay Bridge.  If you are a renter, make sure to arrive by 10:00 AM to get familiar with your gear and boat. Also, make sure you answer the rental question when you RSVP and give Chuck your email and phone number so he can get in contact with you.

We will weave our way around the peninsula of Rock Hall exploring nooks and crannies for a paddle of a little over 3 miles that will put us at our destination of Rock Hall Beach in Ferry Park around noon.  The beach should put us within a couple block walk of most of the activities going on Saturday.

After playing with the pirates and wenches for about 3 hours we will get back in our boats around 3:00 for the return paddle to Spring Cove and should be off the water around 4:30.

A number of people are getting motel rooms or renting homes to make a weekend out of it in Rock Hall.  While this will be CKA's only event of the weekend, Jake's Meetup Group called Second Half Rally will be doing a paddle on Sunday which Chuck will be attending and providing rental boats for, as well as many other paddlers from CKA.  Jake's Meetup Group will also be doing a paddle on Friday night that many from our group will be attending that as well.  At this point, we do not know if Chuck will be renting paddles for the Friday night paddle with Jake's group.

I know a number of people are planning on some sort of costume for the weekend.  I discovered that buried deep in the even website was a listing of places that sold or rented pirate costumes.  I don't suppose Chuck can teach a macaw to sit on his shoulder while he paddles by then but then he doesn't own a macaw.  LOL  We expect this weekend will be a lot of fun for all those who attend whether it is for the day or the weekend.  We did have a wonderful time last year at this event!!!!!

Rental boats will be available at the rate of $50.00.  Please answer YES to the renting a kayak question when you RSVP.

If anyone is looking for lodging, there are still a few rooms at the Comfort Suites in Chestertown. [masked]-0555. Most hotels show they are booked if you look online. Call hotels directly for vacancies.

Does anyone have suggestions for hotel reservations or other accommodations for the weekend? I would like to paddle Saturday and Sunday (maybe Friday night).

I think most of the hotels within 50 miles are already rented. I think some people are camping right there in Rock Hall. I think it is called something like Bay CampGround. It is a bit pricey, like $45 a night. B & Bs might be a good thing to look into as well.

It may not be too late to find a house from one of the vacation rental web sites. There are may still be rooms at the hotel in Chestertown that gets the bad reviews. The Driftwood? A few people stayed there for the Tea Party and said it wasn't all that bad.
