Laid Back Saturday Social Paddle - Triadelphia _ Greenbridge Area

Laid Back Saturday Social Paddle from Greenbridge Recreation Area on Triadelphia Reservoir

This is a perfect paddle for newer paddlers who would like to rent a kayak.

There are spots reserved on the attending list for members who rent kayaks and for those who have paid the voluntary annual dues.  They will receive preferential treatment on the wait list.

Triadelphia Reservoir is owned by the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission (WSSC). To paddle here you must purchase a $6.00 day use permit or a $70.00 season permit.  You can buy the permit online at http://www.wsscwater.com but expect the process to take about 10 minutes if it is your first time purchasing a permit online.

We'll be on the water promptly at 3:30 PM from the boat ramp at the Greenbridge Recreation Area of Triadelphia Reservoir.  Please plan to arrive with plenty of time to have your boat and gear ready to launch by then.  We do not wait for late arrivals.

This should be about a 6 to 7 mile paddle at a gentle pace heading upstream.  Even newer paddlers should be able to do this one as long as you can handle paddling for a little over an hour each way with a rest stop in the middle. We will stop off the water  for a rest/snack break somewhere around the midpoint in the paddle so bring something to eat and perhaps something to share while they socialize with the rest of the group.  I expect we will be back to the takeout somewhere between 6:00 and 6:30 PM.

Rental kayaks including a paddle and PFD are available for this paddle for $40.00 ($35.00 for those who have paid the voluntary dues).  To reserve one you must answer the rental question when you RSVP.

Does the Garmin watch track the distance traveled?

    July 20, 2014

    • David S.

The Garmin (or any other gps enabled sport watch) does track the distance. In your choice of units. I don't actually know all it will do--it's kinda like trying to learn everything there is to know about Excel. It will do heart rate & cadence(with transmitters), elevation, speed, average speed, speed per lap. It will even tell you the sunset time.

I put up a screen shot of speed graphed by distance.

Yesterday I learned about the importance of a good kayak. Got out in the water and tick tacked back and forth. Glad we didnt hold the whole group back. Got stuck and missed the group. Next trip I will either purchase my own kayak or rent one from Chuck. It was a beautiful day out though!

It was a perfect afternoon for a paddle. We're fortunate to have a place like Triadelphia in our area. Great company, great weather, great food and great camaraderie. Thanks Chuck for being our leader.

Hey Chuck, just wanted to confirm that you have a rental for my companion tomorrow? I signed up +1, but not sure if that came through or not. Thanks :-)

I'm sorry, I have unexpected guests from out if town and won't be X able to atrend.

Hi Chuck -- is this going out of Greenbridge?
"We'll be on the water promptly at 3:30 PM from the boat ramp at the Greenbridge Recreation Area of Triadelphia Reservoir. "

or where the associated map indicates (Tridelphia Mill Rd?)….

BTW, thx for organizing and running last Sunday's paddle at Mellows Bay. Very interesting place -- and I even got up close & personal with one of the wrecks (got my stern "hung up" for a minute or two…)

Tim, Thank you for let me try your boat at Mallows Bay. It was a quite workout. :)

    • Tim

Very welcomed Yoshiko! You were carving up the surf there for awhile…;)

Will this event be cancelled with the threatening rain storm?

    July 15, 2014

    • Chuck

You must mean the threatening blue skies. There is a 30% chance of scattered thundershowers on Saturday but that quite literally and exactly also means a 70% chance of sunny blue skies.

      1 · July 15, 2014

    • Tiffany M J.

Good to know we have a 70% chance of sunshine! I'm new to the area and I am looking forward to learning about these waters.

      July 16, 2014

  • Tim

and I'll self correct to "Mallows" Bay… ;)

    July 15, 2014

  • Michelle

Hi Chuck...this is my first paddle with your group and I'm excited to join you on Saturday! I have registered on the WSSC site, but I'm not sure where to access the day permit section. Also, I have rsvp'd requesting a kayak, paddle, pfd rental. Will they be at the boat ramp?? Thanks!

    July 15, 2014

    • Chuck

Hey Michelle - To actually purchase a permit online go to the website listed above and then to "Custoners" and then "Permits & Licenses" and finally "Watershed Use Permits" It's not a very user friendly site and you may have to enter your information again. You are correct in assuming that the kayak and gear will be waiting at the ramp. I always send out an email the night before the paddle with all of the details you need to know to attend. We're looking forward to meeting you on the water.
