Moon Light Paddle on the Upper Potomac from Shepherdstown, WV

THERE ARE NO RENTAL KAYAKS AVAILABLE FOR THIS PADDLE.

Come howl at the moon with an 8-mile night paddle on the Potomac River from the Shepherdstown boat ramp to Snyder’s Landing and back hosted by Rob and CIndy.  This tranquil section of the river is suitable for all skill levels, and offers spectacular views of the sunset and full moon. Arrive no later than 6:00 PM as we will be on the water from the Shepherdstown boat ramp at 6:30PM and paddle upstream at a leisurely pace. We will take a break at Snyder’s Landing to admire the sunset before heading back downstream, with an anticipated return time of 10:30 PM. If we are lucky we might get to see a train cross the bridge upon our return. We recommend that participants bring snacks, beverage of choice, and multiple light sticks to attach to their kayak and PFD.

Rob, you made the right call for the trip. However three of us made an abbreviated paddle between storms even seeing a beautiful full moon on the water. Great water trail- hope we can reschedule the full paddle.

    Gang,
Thunderstorms are here in Hedgesville, WV and heading east. The national Weather service says sporadic Severe thunderstorms with the possibility of damaging hail in our area. I am going to cancel the paddle and reschedule it soon. Sorry all.

I ended up dropping off list for a variety of reasons. I hate to miss it as I have wanted to do a night paddle for a long time.

Not sure I can get there by launch time so I better bow out.

I am so excited about this paddle! I just wanted to send a quick note about what lighting to use while night paddling. A successful night paddler protects his/her night vison by not employing bright lights while paddling (flashlights, headlights, spot lights). However, we do recommend that you stow a flashlight in your boat for use on the shore or in case there is an emergency. At a minimum, each paddler should have one light stick that is securely attached to the boat and another that is attached to the paddler. This will help us locate both you and your boat in the extremely unlikely event you become separated. There is no maximum number of light sticks you can use, however, and decorating your boat with multiple light sticks or soft party lights can be pretty darn cool! Go for it!!

Is anyone interested in carpooling? I live in Laurel and could take someone and their boat, or go with someone else who has room.
