This is an event near Ocala, Florida that LIsa S has attended for the past couple years.  She comes back every year ranting and raving about how fantastic it was, the stunningly beautiful places she paddled and how little it cost.  In previous years they have had over 300 attendees.

It appears to be well organized by a group of people on HammockForums.net.  To attend you will need to register as a member the forum and then sign up on a public spreadsheet using your forum name.  Lisa's forum name is "Early Bird" and mine is "Kayak Chuck".

They advocate a donation of $5 to $10 per day for the number of days you are attending.  For that donation you will get a place to camp for 4 nights, breakfast and dinner most days and a number of guided activities to attend.  Those activities include kayaking options every day but also include hikes and a number of other things.

If you look at a map of the Ocala National Forest you will see from all of the water in the area there are a TON of kayaking options nearby like Silver Springs and Juniper Springs to name a couple.  It looks to me like you could do a different really neat paddle in the area every day for at least a month and still not see it all.  I have led paddling trips to some of the locations in the area.

While the event is sponsored by a hammock camping group they are very tolerant of tents but will not tolerate trailers, RV's and that sort of thing.  Do expect them to tell you why hammocks are better if you bring a tent though.  There are no electrical hook ups available.

Lisa and I will be going down at least one day early or staying at least one day late in southern Georgia where cheap $50 a night motel rooms are extremely abundant.  we may do both one day before and one day after.  This would be in addition to the dates posted above.  There are a number of paddling trips in that area which I have led trips on and am very familiar with that we could pick from for some additional paddling time down there.

I want to point out that Rick and I will also be offering our Jacksonville and Tampa trips again this year.  On those we will be staying in gorgeous high end vacation rental houses so the cost of those trips will be considerably more.  We will also be paddling to different locations.  If the price of those trips is a little bit steep for you here's something you can do for less than $100 plus gas

Here is the link to the HangCon description and details on HammockForums.net.  Please be sure to sign up there if sign up there.

Don't have a boat but still want to go?  there will be 2 rental kayaks (with paddle and PFD} available for $100 for about 5 days of paddling.  Just comment below to request one.  You'll need to bring your own camping gear.  It may be possible to pick you up at a local airport if you'd prefer to drive down.  Have your own boat but want to fly?  I'd be willing to transport your boat for $100.00.  But there is only room for two additional boats on the car whether it's your own or a rental boat.

Hi Chuck and Lisa! What kind of boats are people bringing? Long boats or recreational?

Hi Kent! I'll probably take my 13 foot boat. Other years most people at the hang have had longer boats.

I used my 13' solo canoe last year and it was more than fast enough. Long boats work great, but shorter watercraft maneuver better in the narrow parts of the river.

I'm landing in Orlando airport at 740 pm on Thursday 19. And leaving at 840pm on Monday. Carpool anyone please? Might as well jump right in. I hope I can get a kayak please? I have a tent hammock in my amazon cart !

Jackie, I have not finalized my plans yet, but will probably not be able to pick you up at the airport. I'll let you know if that changes. You should also post this on the event page at hammock forums. People fly in from all over and you might be able to connect with someone via the event page. Also, if you're renting a boat from Chuck I'm sure you could store your camping gear in the rental boat before he leaves. Check with Chuck. Chuck, please remove this post if this isn't true. Be aware the it is likely to drop below freezing at night. The morning dew was frozen on my tent last year.

Hey Jackie - I have you covered for the rental boat and you can put some gear in it. I'm not sure about being able to pick you up at the airport. I was actually thinking people should fly into Jacksonville not Orlando but we'll get it figured out.

This seems like a fun adventure. I have been on one event with this fun group. I would like to make this event. Fly down probably. I would need to rent a kayak. Not sure if people arrange transportation from the airport and go in together for a car/ uber? I could bring a small tent. Or share with another female. Anyone interested in helping me work out the details? I already scheduled off work Friday and Monday.

I've done event 2 times. It's a great group of people and kayaking on crystal clear rivers is amazing. I bought a hammock that is fairly flat, so I can sleep on my side as comfortable as a regular bed. http://www.amokequipment.com/
