A PFD (Personal Floatation Device) is required for all of our paddles. Do you have your own PFD or have acces to one?

Yes, I have a PFD with a very loud whistle in case I wander off the water trail.

Please tell us a little about your previous kayaking experience. It's okay if you don't have a lot of experience.

I've been flatwater kayaking since 2006 - roughly once a week in warm weather. I've enjoyed numerous day paddles all around MD, a couple kayak camping trips in the Outer Banks and on the Potomac River, and also several canoe camping trips, including a 6-day backcountry canoe trip in Canada in 2014.

What kind or type of kayak(s) do you own? If you'll be renting or borrowing from a friend that's okay too. We also have rental kayaks for members to use.

Wilderness Systems Tsunami 135 for light touring Current Designs Equinox (16') - yellow over white for longer trips

Why do you kayak? Some people paddle to relax and get away from it all outdoors, others to stay fit. The real crazies paddle just for the joy and fun of it. What's your reason?

All of the above. I love anything in or on the water. Sitting in a boat is much more fun to me than hauling a backpack along a trail. The scenery's better and you can see a lot more of it. Kayaking just feels good, too - it's kind of like wet yoga, so I can paddle all day and not be sore. I also like camping, and there's so many lovely places to camp along the water. However, I'm not wild about cold-weather paddling, so you'll see me when it warms up again.

What do you hope to get out of joining this group? Some people want to improve their paddling skills others just want to socialize with fellow paddlers. Is there anything special you're looking for?

I'm excited about meeting new friends to have fun and experienced company for these adventures. Always have a buddy with you! This group's members sound like they actually are buddies, which is nice. I also want to learn how to navigate on the water and find put-ins/take-outs for great paddling trips.

Hi, I enjoy the trips with CKA's friendly paddlers to share great places around Maryland for kayak camping or day paddling.
