I did little before 2013. As a kid, my family had a boat on the West or South Rivers. Fond memories of childhood weekends at a club in Shadyside that later became the "Captain Avery Museum". A guided ocean kayaking trip at Acadia National Park (Maine) SOLD me on kayaking about 12 years ago. I got a 16' Native Ultimate tandem for "family" use, but it proved too slow and was rarely used. After discovering CKA in April 2013 I used Craigslist to sell that and then find my Seda Viking 16'. I took some lessons through CKA. Now I can pretend I know what I'm doing.
A SEDA Viking 16' 6" (green / white) and a Prodigy 10' "rec" (orange). I want a faster boat. Maybe next year.
I LOVE just being low to the water, quiet, and to move so easily and quietly through it. I also like making friends, observing wildlife, relaxing, and getting exercise.
My goals are to paddle great places with a friendly group, and to make friends. I'm not into camping or really long trips. CKA is terrific!
A D.C. native, I like birding, nature, photography, hiking, and boating. Started kayaking Spring of 2013.
Chuck constantly manages all trip details and participation. It keeps things smooth. And the planning required for some of the trips must be extensive. I also really appreciate the way multiple "leaders" keep safety a top priority. It's a phenomenal group of friendly people too.
