A PFD (Personal Floatation Device) is required for all of our paddles. Do you have your own PFD or have acces to one?

Please tell us a little about your previous kayaking experience. It's okay if you don't have a lot of experience.

I started kayaking with a friend in 2003. He had two boats an ocean kayak and a 14 foot flatwater kayak. We switched off when we went out, except I was the only one that took the ocean kayak in the ocean. Actually, we both went out in ocean kayaks in Monterey Bay. I was the only one that would go out in surf . We probably went out every other weekend when the weather was good. I really loved it. It's so much easier than a canoe and we got to explore places I never would have seen just from going to the ocean or a lake to swim. I especially liked the birds that we could see in some of the marshes. Since I started home improving and gardening in 2005, I've not been out paddling much at all.

What kind or type of kayak(s) do you own? If you'll be renting or borrowing from a friend that's okay too. We also have rental kayaks for members to use.

It's a basic EMS light but not very swift kayak, a Perception I think.

Why do you kayak? Some people paddle to relax and get away from it all outdoors, others to stay fit. The real crazies paddle just for the joy and fun of it. What's your reason?

I love being on or in the water. I Swim outside from April-November and am happy on anything that floats. Theoretically, I can go out myself in the kayak since there are places close by, but I haven't much. As I said I also have really loved exploring places in Charles and I think St Mary's county where we saw lots of nesting osprey and bald eagles, cormorants, heron etc.

What do you hope to get out of joining this group? Some people want to improve their paddling skills others just want to socialize with fellow paddlers. Is there anything special you're looking for?

Improving my skills would be a nice perk but I'm interested in the social connection to get me out of my garden and into my boat. I haven't been paddling but will do if I make a commitment to a trip.

I'm pretty active year-round, gardening swimming hiking in the summer, spinning /cycling and yoga all year round, cross-countryskiing in the winter when I can. Spent about half my adult life in NYC. Still enjoy theater, opera, symphony, ballet etc.
