A PFD (Personal Floatation Device) is required for all of our paddles. Do you have your own PFD or have acces to one?

Please tell us a little about your previous kayaking experience. It's okay if you don't have a lot of experience.

Have taken the basic 1 day kayak class with both Potomac Paddlesports and in Annapolis Quiet waters park. Went on a 1 week kayak trip in Vermont/Quebec - almost learned my roll on that one. Since I don't have a kayak, I kayak perhaps 5 times per year. Consider myself an advanced beginner (have been taught the techniques, but need more time in a boat). I know how to get in and out of the kayak, understand the stroke mechanics, can do a wet exit, but would need help remembering the re-entry.

What kind or type of kayak(s) do you own? If you'll be renting or borrowing from a friend that's okay too. We also have rental kayaks for members to use.

Do not yet own a kayak - want more experience before I decide what to buy. Will need to rent.

Why do you kayak? Some people paddle to relax and get away from it all outdoors, others to stay fit. The real crazies paddle just for the joy and fun of it. What's your reason?

To connect to nature and for the relaxation - though I can see using it to stay fit as I get better at it. I just love the peace that comes from being at that level on the water.

What do you hope to get out of joining this group? Some people want to improve their paddling skills others just want to socialize with fellow paddlers. Is there anything special you're looking for?

Learn about good paddling spots, learn to paddle safely, understand what I do and don't want in a kayak so I can buy one and also the best ways to transport a kayak (for a 5'5 120 lb woman).

Hi, I'm Leslie. I discovered the kayak 6 years ago (grew up canoeing) and felt this connection - I had found the watercraft for me. But not owning one, I haven't had much chance to paddle. Want to get more experience so I can buy my own.
