EDIT: Attendees! I neglected to mention where to go once you get here! The coop is in a large red brick warehouse that's been converted to a series of office lofts. As a hint, the building is opposite the Metra tracks. The 3717 entrance is about halfway down the block between Waveland and Grace (the door should be labeled 3717). The office is in unit 210, and there's a buzzer on the door outside. Hit it and I'll buzz you up.

Hi all! I think it's just about time we announce the first meetup!

We'll gear this event towards introductions and goal settings. I'd love to tell you about the vision that I have for this community, but I'd also like to hear from everyone else! From talking with Josh of the former Unity-3D-Chicago group, I've gathered that we have members of varying expertise. Some of us have been working professionally in Unity for years, and others are best categorized as hobbyists or beginners. I want both camps to feel like their interests are served by being a part of and contributing to this user group. So, let's try to figure out what that means!

I'll plan to throw together a quick presentation about my history with Unity and I'll also try to touch on some small facet of development. Consider it a prototype presentation!

For the first meeting, I'm suggesting that we hold it at Indie City Coop, which is where I work most of the week. Ryan Wiemeyer of The Men Who Wear Many Hats was a cool guy and lent us the space, so give him your thanks and maybe buy his games or something. We can talk at the meeting about whether or not this is the best place for future meetups, or if everyone would rather relocate. You can get there via the Addison Brown line stop, or if you're coming from neighborhoods west of the Red/Brown line, you can take the eastbound Addison bus.

Anyways, I hope some of you can make it! Please feel free to ping me if you have suggestions, questions, or comments about the upcoming date. See you there!

@Rashad, We picked up some Unity tips & tricks, discussed workflow tools and talked shop about best practices when using Unity 3D. There will be a forum coming up designed for communication, knowledge exchange and planning between meetings.

There's some gents in the coop right now recording some footage for their game, so we're trying to stay out of their way. If you get here I'm at the front door so you don't have to buzz. Knock and say hi!

Great theme for the first meet-up Ben! I think setting purpose and scope of any gathering is very important. My desire to join any meet up is having a safe space to learn new skills, contribute with what I know and meet new people.

    I look forward to it.
