What are your current barefoot running goals, if any?

To introduce as many Chicago runners as possible to the immense benefits of barefoot running: 1. A vast reduction in the potential for injury. 2. The mindset that running is for itself rather than a vehicle to achieve some other goal, like a "PB".

What are your long term barefoot running goals, if any?

I would like to be able to run (relatively) pain free on just about any surface and in almost any temperature. We have runners in our wider BFR community who have achieved this to a mind-boggling degree. I'm not there yet by any measure!

What is your running background?

I began running in 1977, along with millions of others, following the publication of Jim Fixx's blockbuster book "The Complete Book of Running". Also like so many others, I quickly found myself stopped by injuries. Thankfully, BFR ended all that.

Would you like to provide any other information about yourself?

My transition to BFR was difficult. I was attempting it with no guidance or advice from anyone. The result was repeated frustration and multiple injuries. Hopefully my mentoring will allow others to avoid the pitfalls that I was plagued by.


I'm the founder of and instructor for the Chicago Area Barefoot Running Meetup Group. Though not a coach, I have been running almost exclusively barefoot for more than ten years here in northeast Illinois, spring, summer, fall and winter. Join me!
