This is our usual Sunday spot. We're here just about every week!
For those new to the group, we usually form up two teams, sometimes three (8 person max per team), so we'll have a sign on the table(s) indicating that it's us. We're usually at the back of the bar. Trivia starts promptly at 8 o'clock so we try to get there a little early to get settled in. It usually ends around 10:30 and occasionally some of us stay afterwards to hang out.
Trivia is free; however, the bar does ask that you spend at least $5 on food and/or drink otherwise they reserve the right to charge you $5. But lets not have that happen. They've got good drink specials and really good food. You should eat something. Your mother worries about you.
Trivia at Michael Diversey's consists of 5 regular rounds with 10-12 questions each and a speed round to finish things up.
Round 1 is a picture round.
Round 2 is a general trivia round but all 10 of the answers are themed. So maybe you have the answers "Ford Bronco" and "Lincoln Logs." At that point, the theme might be car brands or U.S. Presidents. Figuring out the theme gets you 2 points and can assist you in figuring out some of the other questions.
Round 3 is typically a music round. You get ½ a point for the artist and ½ a point for the song title.
Round 4 can be anything.
Round 5 is usually chosen the week before by the team that comes in fifth place.
You are also allowed to double one of the first 5 rounds. So if you are pretty sure about all twelve answers in a particular round, double it to get 24.
The sixth round is a speed round. It consists of one question with 30 possible answers. It could be something like "Most populous cities in the U.S." or "current members of the Chicago Blackhawks." There's really no telling until he reveals the question. At that point you've got about 4 minutes to write down as many answers as possible.
On Sunday afternoon, the M.C. will post the topics for the rounds on Facebook and clues for Round 2 on Twitter. I'll copy and paste them in the comments section so you know what you're getting yourself in to.
The chosen topic is college mascots. Too bad all the B1G teams have such lame mascots. Buckeyes? Hoosiers? Boilermakers? Puh-leez. Nothing quite as graceful or fearsome as a Gamecock
We'll see you there!
