What is your level of language? / How much have you studied?

Got my BA in 1974 from Manchester College in N. IN majoring in Psychology & German. Did my junior year abroad at Phillips-Universitaet in Marburg, W. Germany[masked], and worked at a German social service agency in W. Berlin[masked], with friends in E. Berlin, Potsdam, and Dresden. Became very fluent in German (still dream in German if the dream is set in Germany), did some translation and interpreting work. Still like to read Der Spiegel, Kafka, Hesse, Brecht, or Jung in German. Am now trilingual since starting with Spanish in 1980 and using it regularly at work, but my German is still better than my Spanish.

Are you from Germany, of German heritage, or just interested in learning German?

I am of German heritage: Studebaker/Studenbecker ancestors from Solingen Germany, Funderburg/Von der Burg ancestors from Schloss Burg an der Wupper im bergischen Land. Was thrilled to visit these ancestral places while I lived in Germany. Have kept up my German pretty well for decades since the 1970's (was last in Berlin, Dresden, Marburg in spring 1991) by reading, writing, or speaking German with myself on a daily basis.

Retired 65 y/o professional counselor in Chicagoland for almost 40 years. 3 years living in Marburg, W. Germany & W. Berlin in the 1970's are still among the favorite years of my life. Visited Germany again in 1981 & 1991, not since. Miss BRD a lot.
