We warmly invite you to join us for the next meetup where will dig into a couple interesting K8s topics.

Saba & Corey are going to team up and introduce writing serverless functions in Kubernetes. This talk provides a tutorial on developing serverless functions using OpenFaaS. It also features a demo of how they have utilized these functions for an event driven workflow at Relativity. OpenFaaS (https://github.com/openfaas/faas) is a framework that enables developers to run their small pieces of codes in form of functions wrapped in a Docker container in a Kubernetes cluster. The framework includes built in scheduling and monitoring. The talk will go over some of the benefits gained and challenges faced when developing using OpenFaaS.

Second, Drew from Tigera will present "Isle of Cats: K8s Networking Revealed." Kubernetes networking plug-ins and frameworks are necessary and integral to running K8s. This talk will explain how the two most common frameworks: Flannel and Calico work underneath the hood including the Calico and Flannel CNI plugins. He will then show some best practices and solutions to common gotchas with the goal of increasing the speed and reliability of your Kubernetes networking plane.

SPEAKER BIOS
Saba Jamalian joined Relativity four years ago as a Software Engineer in the Engineering Operations department. His team is responsible for all the automation around the Azure Infrastructure that runs Relativity software in the cloud. They operate in 8 Azure regions across the globe.
Before joining Relativity, he was a graduate student at BGSU, Ohio, where he was also responsible for deploying and maintaining an OpenStack private cloud.

Corey Wagehoft has been at Relativity as a Lead Engineer for almost 2 years, focusing previously on cloud network security and now on Kubernetes. Corey was previously assigned almost 2 years before to Relativity as a consultant for a prominent Azure consulting partner. His team is responsible for all automation with Azure infrastructure operating currently in 8 Azure regions across the globe. Before joining Relativity Corey designed and operated highly available infrastructure in health care and enterprise e-mail security.

He spent seven years at Splunk honing his security skills and two and a half years at Mesosphere, then Heptio mastering the art of distributed systems, containers, and all that goes along with them.
