We will begin at 5:30 with networking and kick off the program at 6:00 p.m.
The program will include the following talks:
• "Reinventing Legal Services, Not the Wheel" -- Lisa Colpoys (http://www.illinoislegalaidonline.org/index.php?staff), Executive Director, Illinois Legal Aid Online. By creatively borrowing solutions from other industries we can improve legal services. By applying this premise to the delivery of legal services to those who can't afford a lawyer, we can exponentially expand the number of people who can meaningfully access the legal system.
• "Future of Technology in Legal Practice" -- Jay Leib (http://www.nexlp.com/about/), CEO, NexLP and Irina Matveeva (https://www.linkedin.com/pub/irina-matveeva/1a/12a/2), Head of Machine Learning, NexLP.
• "Legal Technology in the Chinese Market" -- Geoffrey A. Vance (http://www.mwe.com/Geoffrey-A-Vance/), McDermott Will & Emery. Geof will discuss the demand for sophisticated legal services in China, and opportunities and challenges in meeting this demand. Geof will also explain how his law firm is applying advanced technology solutions to assist in reviewing and analyzing Chinese-language data.
• "The Preservation Iceberg" -- William H. J. Hubbard (http://www.law.uchicago.edu/faculty/hubbard), Law Professor, The University of Chicago Law School. William will share the results of the Preservation Costs Survey, the first major study of preservation costs borne by companies. He finds that the most often cited costs of preservation (and discovery more generally) are often just the tip of the iceberg. He will discuss the distinct challenges and potential solutions available to smaller companies versus larger companies.
