Right. I think you need two to three visits to fully appreciate all the orchids :-)

Not knowing how you were working this, I had thought we might have been meeting inside the show at 11:00, so I purchased 10:45 tickets. Found a friend wants to come with. Perhaps my son to. If I end up entering early, you may be able to find me inside wearing a camera vest, strapped down with 2 cameras and my Indiana Jones hat (with grey beard and long hair).

Hi I would love to go, but I can't afford the parking. Is there anyone that can pick me up somewhere close by and drive me in the park. I can help pay for parking. I live in Evanston close to the Edens.

Hi, I went to the show the first weekend. Some of the prettiest orchids are in the free entrance area. Great lighting in there. The very dark room you enter first has the most exotic orchids. there is little room in there, I suggest getting there early (11:00 is fine) to avoid lines of people passing the orchid exhibits so you can shoot unfettered. then you move in to the three green houses that are always open at Botanic, with a few of the same and some unique varieties spread out in the greenhouse rooms. All in all I was disappointed in the show. the main room used for many Botanic shows is now being used as a temporary café while the main cafe is under renovation. I went early, got some nice shots. I go to Botanic often so I may be jaded, and the greenhouses are great photo spots. Now they are only open to people who paid for the show (I think), whereas they are usually open to garden visitors. It is worth a go for $10'$8 members) if you love flowers, parking non member is $25.

I received this today from CBR. Some of you might be interested in participating in their judging.

"Photographers can now share their images of orchids with the Chicago Botanic Garden community through our new orchid photo contest. As with our other popular photo contests, all participants' images appear in a gallery for our website visitors to admire. The winner receives a free garden membership. The link below includes information on entering this contest. Please share it with your photographer friends/networks/students/Facebook groups. It's important to note that the Orchid Show is a ticketed event. Tickets are $8 for members/$10 for nonmembers.
More info about photography at the orchid show at:
http://www.chicagobotanic.org/orchid/about You can also share your photos on Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram by using #theorchidshow
(using this hashtag does not enter images into the contest, but shines the spotlight on them for our Garden fans)"

I would love to go, but don't have a car. I live in Edgewater and if someone is near by a ride would be appreciated.

By the what does it mean that it's a timed ticket? What is the duration? I was planning to get the 10am ticket but the scheduled meetup time here is 11am. On the site it doesn't state any duration though.

Thanks for the info. I've just realized I missed some words over there. I thought it's a timed event. I'll be purchasing my ticket later tonight. Are tripods allowed inside?

I'm looking forward to this one after dealing with too much winter and fashion photography. This should provide a refreshing change!
