This is group is for people who are interested in learning how to Chicago Step.I will teach you the authentic Chicago way. No more 8 count! I was trained on Chicago's South Side and I work with mentors in the Chicago area who keep me accountable with preserving the authenticity and the history of this awesome dance. I use the amazing music that is played on the Chicago Steppin dance floors.
I am born and raised on the South Side of Chicago. And as a youngster we used to do the Bop. Chicago Steppin is a dance that evolved from the Bop. There was no countng... Our parents Bopped and us youngsters learned by watching. Later the dance took on its new form, which is sleek, sexy, and smoother. The basic is easy to learn but takes practice to master! But when practiced over and over becomes second nature to most. You get out of it what you put into it! Although it’s a partner dance, the parts are learned differently based on whether you are a man or a woman. So in the beginning that's why no partner is necessary. But partnering comes after mastering your basic dance.
This group is great for people who are interested in using dance as a form of exercise. Dancing burns a lot of calories.. and tones muscles. It is also low impact. The benefits of social dancing is tremendous. It lowers stress, reduces depression, increases endorphins, raises self esteem, creates community, improves physical health, improves balance, and I could go on.....
So come on out and get your Step On!
