January R Meetup: RStudio

The January 2012 Chicago R User Group agenda has been set!

We're excited to welcome the RStudio team to Chicago. JJ Allaire and some of his team will be joining us to present and discuss the RStudio integrated development environment.

As is our custom, there will be light snacks served and a cash bar.

More details will follow...

Great to meet people, learn thoughts about coding and thoughts on IDEs. The single best takeaway of the night for me was something that the presenter said in passing. He might have been quoting someone else (?): for statistical analysis, you need to be able to repeat your experiment and communicate clearly what you did. This is a basic necessity for transparency and for rigor. There is no more precise and succinct way to do this than by presenting an audience with (clear, readable) code.

One of the best meetups. Learned a lot about the newest R Studio release.

I'm new to R and this was a great introduction. The integrated view afforded by R-Studio looks to be very useful in learning R. R-Studio also looks very lightweight, which is great in an IDE. Last, it was also VERY nice talking with some JD and others as I received a very clear overview as to the interfacing of databases with R (something that had puzzled me in my limited investigations thus far). Thank to Chicago RUG and JJ Allaire for the presentation!
