FOR FIRST TIME VISITORS & NEWER SACRED HARP SINGERS
1. Some Sacred Harp events are more like workshops, which focus on step by step teaching of this style of music. Most Sacred Harp events, like this one, are simply people gathering together in a room to sing lots of songs. This can be somewhat overwhelming to a first time visitor. But be assured that everyone in the room was in a similar position when they started singing Sacred Harp music. Come and enjoy the music and meet a few people. Learn a few things, and feel good about that. There's no need to learn everything in your first visit, or by your 10th or 100th visit. If you like the music and you're attracted to the idea of community-based singing, you can return to many more events in the future to learn and grow at your own pace.
2. Lisa Grayson, a local Chicago singer and writer, has written a helpful two-page Beginner's Guide for first time visitors. If you'll be a first time visitor, you may find it to be a quick, helpful introduction. Click on the following link to access the Beginner's Guide: http://www.publica.com/beginnersheet.pdf
3. The homepage of the Chicago Sacred Harp meetup group was written specifically to inform the general public about Sacred Harp singing.
