What we're about

Welcome to ChicagoVeg – Chicagoland Vegetarian, Vegan, Raw Foodist Community.

ChicagoVeg is the largest Chicagoland community for vegetarians, vegans, and raw foodists to socialize and meet like-minded people. We organize a range of fun activities and educational events in the city and the suburbs. Whether you are vegan or not vegan, we welcome everyone who is interested in a vegan/vegetarian/raw lifestyle for any reason - ethical, environmental, health, or spiritual. We support a nonjudgmental community where everyone can feel welcome to express their opinions, socialize, and have fun! Some of the fun activities include the following: exchanging vegan recipes (raw and not raw), vegan food potlucks, dining out at local vegetarian/vegan/raw restaurants, lectures pertaining to the vegetarian/vegan/raw lifestyle, and outreach events that promote a vegan lifestyle. We see the importance of educating others about advantages of veganism/vegetarianism, and we believe that a continuous education and supportive community are vitally important to sustain a vegan/vegetarian lifestyle.

Join us for delicious raw food/vegan/vegetarian meals, share your favorite recipes, discuss living a healthy vegetarian/vegan/raw food lifestyle, support green/eco living, and make new friends!

Everyone is welcome, from the vegetarian/vegan/raw food-curious to the 100% vegetarian/vegan/vegan-raw-foodists.

In addition to our monthly events, ChicagoVeg is also the lead organizer of the Chicago Veggie Pride Parade (CVPP). The goal of the parade is "Celebrating the Vegan/Vegetarian Lifestyle!" Featuring guest speakers, a costume contest, and tons of fun, CVPP is a wonderful all-encompassing event to support local vegans and vegetarians, as well as to raise awareness in the general public about the benefits of a plant-based diet. We encourage everyone, vegans or not vegans, to come and walk, socialize, learn, and of course celebrate the Vegan/Vegetarian lifestyle with us!

Screening of "First Reformed" with Q&A Discussion

Join us for screening of "First Reformed" as a part of Religion in the Frame Film Festival at Facets Cinémathèque. This is a joint event with Chicagoland Independent & Documentary Films (CIDFilms) group: https://www.meetup.com/CIDFilms Unlike most of our film screenings this is not a veg-related film. But why can't we just go for a regular movie to enjoy it together? Synopsis: Ethan Hawke stars as a minister at a showpiece church in upstate New York struggling not with temptation but with despair. Alienated from himself and from God, he is called to minister to a depressed but committed environmental activist. Approaching this task as an intellectual challenge as much as (or more than) a pastoral one, Hawke starts down a path that leads him to examine everything in his life, including his own soul. A harrowing story of religious and existential crisis. Directed by Paul Schraeder, USA, 2017, 113 mins. "First Reformed is oddly bracing, full of unresolved, contradictory, vital ideas" — Chicago Tribune "A wise, shocking, intellectually prodigious masterpiece" — Vanity Fair "A tale of existential woe" — The Atlantic "It builds to something ecstatic while never taking its eyes off the void" — Vulture After the screening, civil rights attorney, Facets Board member, and long-time host of WBEZ's Odyssey Gretchen Helfrich will lead a discussion and Q&A with Willemien Otten, the Director of the Martin Marty Center and a historian of Christianity and Christian thought. If you would like to see the trailer: https://youtu.be/hCF5Y8dQpR4 The admission is free but required RSVP at https://facets.secure.force.com/ticket#sections_a0F0W00000ohWd0UAE where you could get the actual ticket for the screening admission. Please RSVP in advance to avoid a situation when the event is "sold out". Please be on time to meet at 6:30pm in the theater. The films starts at 7:00pm, so we will go in at about 6:50pm. Disclaimer: The views presented in the film are not necessary reflect the views of the event organizers. Meetup may prompt you to rate the event. Please remember that the rating is not for the movie. You rate the organizing of the meetup. Any questions or comments? Carpooling arrangements? Please use the 'Comments' area at the bottom of this page.
