Vegan Ethiopian dining at Ethiopian Diamond!

Join us for a fun evening with good conversation and a delicious Ethiopian meal!

The restaurant is making an effort to reach and to better accommodate local vegetarians & vegans, and we are happy to partner with them in this effort!

The entire meal is 100% vegan and will be served buffet-style.

The menu includes:

• Yemisir Watt (Spicy): Red Lentils simmered with onions in a spicy homemade sauce
• Kik Alicha: Split peas cooked in a mild sauce of onion, garlic and ginger
• Gomen: Chopped collard greens simmered in a mild sauce of onions and fresh garlic
• Tikel Gomen: Sliced cabbage and carrots cooked in a mild sauce
• Dinich Alicha: Potato cubes and carrots cooked in a mild sauce of onions, garlic, ginger, and Ethiopian spices
• Okra Quosta: Okra and chopped spinach simmered in a mild sauce of onions and fresh garlic
• Tofu Tibs: Grilled tofu served with sauteed green pepper, tomato and onion in a mild exotic spice sauce
• Injera Bread (a limited amount of Gluten free Injera may also be available for $1.50 extra per piece - must be ordered in advance)

And all of this for only $15.00 (including tax and tip), cash only!

Do we prepay or at the event ?

    July 23, 2014

Rajeev - We have not rented the entire space. The restaurant bar and other amenities will work as usual. However, please be respectful to ChicagoVeg intoxicants-free policy at our events.

    • Rajeev C.

Oh, hadn't realized there was such a policy. No problem.

Ethiopian Diamond is on my A-list of Chicago Star Restaurants because it delivers exceptional value and consistently great food every time and I've been there over 20 times since I moved here in 2005. I've also hosted a very successful dinner event there for 41 people. The staff treat me like extended family. Delighted that this event make it onto the agenda. Looking forward to sharing a great experience with all attendees, and I agree with the Howard that we should be requesting 100% pure Teff injera, which actually tastes better than the 50%/50% Wheat/Teff mix.

Is it possible to request gluten-free injera?

    July 14, 2014

    • LeoLin B.

Hello Howard. I'll make a note of your request.

      July 14, 2014

  • Howard

Sorry, I did not read the description closely enough. How do I go about requesting gluten-free injera?

    July 14, 2014

  • Harold K.

I decided to withdraw. I have been to Ethopian restaurant many times, but I ask for a separate dish and a fork. I just don't eat communally. I don't want anyone's fingers in my food.

    July 13, 2014

    • Vadim

Harold - It will be a regular buffet dinning: Everyone will choose their food from the buffet to eat from their own plates. It will be totally up-to individuals to use their fingers, bread, or utensils eating from their own plates.

I very much like Ethopian food but I don't eat communially, and I use utensils not bread. I hope this isn't a problem.

I suggested this event because the food is delicious but more importantly, because the experience is very special. Ethiopians eat communally, sharing food as a demonstration of friendship. I look forward to sharing and making new friends!
