• FREE DOCUMENTARY SCREENING OF A PRAYER FOR COMPASSION
Come to be one of the first seeing A Prayer for Compassion, a new documentary from Student Academy Award winner Thomas Jackson! This feature length documentary follows Thomas Jackson on a quest that crisscrosses America and takes him to Morocco for the UN Climate Conference and throughout the Indian subcontinent to ask the question, “Can compassion grow to include all beings? Can people who identify as religious or spiritual come to embrace the call to include all human and nonhuman beings in our circle of respect and caring and love?” The film's producer, Main Street Vegan author and podcaster, Victoria Moran, will be here for a Q&A after the screening. Join us for a fascinating afternoon accompanied by vegan treats. Please invite your friends! This is our joint event with The National Vegetarian Museum which is one of the first to screen this film. Please RSVP at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/a-prayer-for-compassion-documentary-screening-with-victoria-moran-tickets-50771446764 in addition to RSVP on this event page. • Hike In and Around The Chicago Botanic Garden
This will not be a typical hike. We will hike as a group 2 1/2 miles of the North Branch Trail System from the Skokie Lagoons into the Botanic Gardens: 27 spectacular gardens on 385 acres and is a place of ever-changing beauty that you can stroll through. We will walk the gardens for about 2 hours and then meetup again and hike the 2 1/2 miles back to the lagoons. Assuming a couple of miles of walking within the gardens the total hike should be about 7 miles. This is a great opportunity to see a unique part of the Chicago area conservation effort. The trail will be a combination of pavement and crushed limestone. Here is our schedule: 10:00AM - Meet at Boat Launch. 10:15AM - Begin Walk going along the West side of the North Branch Trail. 11:00AM - Arrive at Botanical Gardens (from 11AM-1PM you can browse around the gardens on your own or with others from the meetup group). 01:00PM - Meet back at the Gardens main entrance with Group. 01:15PM - Leave Botanical Gardens and Finish the walk going along the East side of the North Branch Trail. 02:00PM - Arrive back at Boat Launch. Admission to the Botanic Garden is free. The garden does charge for parking but since we will be walking in, there will be no cost to us. While it is completely optional, you might consider bringing a small ($2 or so) donation to drop in their glass donation box. Completely, completely optional. While you are in the Gardens, you may buy yourself lunch at the beautiful gardens cafe, or you can bring lunch or snacks with you and eat on the benches or picnic tables. Or if you are really engrossed with things.... you can look now and eat later :-) Directions: From Chicago, take the Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) until I-94 splits off to form the Edens Expressway. Exit at Willow and head east. Take a left (North) on Forest Way to Tower Road. Take a left on Tower Road and look for the boat launch parking lot on the left. NOTE: This is an outside event and subject to weather conditions. We will post any changes on the event page and will send an email to everyone on the RSVP list.
