Job hunt/ IDP workshop/ Are study group.

I would like to propose a Job search support group to review resumes portfolios and to share leads and encourage effective job searching strategies, and then to work with folks to get their IDP moving along and rounding out the evening with ARE studying and other preparations. We should devote one hour to each 4-5 Job hunt group, 5-6 IDP, 6-7 ARE study and then whatever we deem pressing. I will be traveling in to the city and Thursdays are a good day since folks are not heading out of town for the weekend and informational interviewing can be done in the mornings and afternoons.

Why this will help you and others in a similar situation? Have you ever read what Color Is Your Parachute? Stated frequently and with some academic studies backing up the author claims that working in a group to hunt for a job, one that meets regularly, increases your chances of success by as much as 40%. Having face to face time with folks and your materials will help sharpen your interview skills and catch errors and or omissions that may be preventing you from getting to the one and important word, yes.

I also want to break into the Chicago job market. Chicago is a city that I love and want to return to if possible.

So I propose we designate a place in the city invite folks to join us and see where it can take us.

Coffee shops are good, Libraries too

I understand, 4-5 job hunt help and 5-8 ARE and IDP may not be ideal, I figured I take a stab at times and the advice is most useful. If you can get to the later hours I would be happy to see you and to offer and or revive any help. I will shoot for a better time for IDP ARE in the followup event.

I'd like to echo what Lucas said. I'd love to attend, but 4:00 is in the middle of my workday. Perhaps breaking up the 3-part session into separate events (yet retaining the time and duration) could be a useful thing.

Lastly, one thing that really helped me complete my IDP was completing EPC assignments. Anybody can do them, and they're a really good way to knock out IDP hours that you're having difficulty getting. You can learn more here:

I would love to attend but 4pm is a bit early (The firm I work for has office hours until 6pm). In the future a later time would be appreciated!

I would love to attend this meetup but I am transitioning on my relocation to Chicago as of September 10th! Looking so forward to meeting you all. I am just short of 100 something hours in IDP engineering area and am seeking long term work! Please do keep me in the loop, looking forward!
