Your ticket is also good for regular admission/parking before the event starts. I highly suggest getting your tickets online, especially if you plan on meeting us early. You can buy tickets there….but I am not sure where or if they sell them early.
The Morton arboretum is separated into two sections: East and West. The West side closes at dusk. The East side closes at 3pm and reopens at 4:30 for the Illumination event (although there is a road connecting the two sides and there is a parking lot in each side)
We will be meeting at 1:30 pm in the Visitors Center (right off the East side parking lot). We will check out the maze garden and the children’s garden, rare plants, meadow’s lake, and any other area on the East side (except for the illumination trail). We have to be off the trails at 3pm.
We will then meet back at the visitors center at 3 pm to start our hike over to the West side. The East side parking lot closes at 3pm. If you cannot get into the gates before then, you will have to park on the West side and meet us on the trails. We will hike around the West side until dusk (about 4:45).
We will meet again at the visitor’s center at 5pm to start the illumination hike and see the enchanted railroad, check out the store, etc.
Once we finish the event we will head over to the Rock Bottom Brewery at 8:30 pm. Location: 94 Yorktown Center in Lombard IL 60148 (near the Yorktown mall).
Please let me know when you will be meeting up with the group (so we can make sure we have everyone there). Also let me know if you will be joining us for dinner so I can have a table ready for us.
Any questions just give me a call.
If you can get off work early we will be meeting up in the afternoon to hike some of the unlit trails at the Morton arboretum (these close at dusk). We will check out the buildings and other events they have going on. At 4:30 pm starts the illumination event. We will hike the one mile trail and get in the Christmas spirit. Afterwards we will meet for a late dinner and/or drinks.
It is a $15 entrance fee to get into the Morton arboretum and the illumination event. Parking is included in this fee.
Since this is a work day, and not everyone has off, message me so that I can give you my phone number – I can tell you where we are on the grounds so that you can meet us wherever we are.
If you would like to carpool please post in the comments.
Illumination is an outdoor event on a one-mile, gently rolling, paved path. Please dress for the weather. Walking along the paved trail you can:
• Hug a tree to make it grow brighter
• Sing to a tree and watch it change color
• Interact with light and color with a swipe of your hand
• And many more surprising experiences around every turn!
More to enjoy:
• Enjoy a cozy fire and rest at one of three warming areas
• Visit the Enchanted Railroad and stop in to browse the holiday wares at The Arboretum Store
• Hot cocoa, s'more kits, and more are available for purchase at concessions
