Some news... This weekend 9 SAR teams with dogs were scheduled to go out to search Mount Holy Cross area. Of course it is being called a "training mission". Understand they don't run missions like this for training this time of year. This was to be an all out search effort that was scheduled.
Due to the two feet of snow that blanked the are with another foot coming the mission had to be called off.
SAR team members extended their apology and wants you all to know that their thoughts and prayers are with James.
The weather is too risky and will put the teams in harms way. They will provide updates immediately when available.
I will pass information on immediately when I am contacted.
Chicagoland Backpackers is an organization for those interested in getting outside, enjoying nature, having fun, and sometimes having a little bit of adventure. Backpacking involves hiking on wilderness trails with survival gear to sustain you for a few days to a few weeks. Leaders are experienced in safely navigating with a compass and map to destinations averaging from 6 to 15 miles per day. Backpacing is a sport for those who are physically fit and have the necessary equipment to sustain themselves in good and bad weather. Members can attend begining trips with trainers who will teach you how to use the necessary gear needed for more advanced trips. The group strives to provide trip opportunities for all levels and to increase backpacking competance in all members. Most of our events are overnight weekend trips in the Midwest within a 3 to 8 hours drive but there are also extended trips and trips to other parts of the country. Even though our focus is backpacking we do reserve the right to occasionally deviate into overnight bike touring, canoe camping, and other outdoor adventures. Like many Meetup groups we charge a small fee to cover the Meetup site fee and other expenses. By becoming a member you have agreed to release this group from any and all liability. You are responsbile for your own safety and safe conduct on trips. Please remember that the organizers are volunteers and that it is a vacation for everyone.
