Exploring abandoned and other interesting locations in Chicagoland, from Rockford to Gary, Chicago to Harvey and all points in-between. This is a group for photographers of all levels to explore and shoot these interesting and picturesque locations.
We're not just about abandoned buildings - we're about photography first, and exploration second. So the goal is to balance our meetups between abandoned locations and other sites. Often we hold meetups with multiple locations with a mix of both.
In our first year we had 75 meetups! We shoot abandoned factories, industrial complexes, apartment complexes, and more - including a Gothic Church, theaters and silos (grain, not the other kind.) We've photographed at Fermilab, Argonne Labs, Bahai, locks, numerous cemeteries and even a water aeration plant. We also do a lot of light painting and steel wool spinning.
Since I also head up the photo department for Anime Midwest, I enjoy shooting cosplayers - so I arrange for them to model on many meetups. You can photograph the location, and if you wish, spice things up with a model ghost, mad scientist, slayer or more.
If you're interested in improving your photo skills, meeting new people, and participating in some great outings - join us!
Be sure to check out our "self guided" tours - it's a new project and we're slowly adding to it. Cool places you can go and shoot you may not have known about! It's in the Meetup Forum!
Membership Dues: Annual Membership Dues are due within the first week of membership. The "Pay Online" button is located in the left-side column of the group's page, below the group photo and "About Us" section. Please take a moment to view the reasons for membership dues as well as payment options (click the blue link that reads $4.00 per person). If you have any questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact an organizer! We're really nice people. Promise.
RSVP Policy: Please keep in mind that the RSVP deadline is 48 hours prior to the event. This is to allow ample time for those on the waiting list to make a decision. If you change your RSVP to "No" the morning of the event, it's not fair to those on the waiting list and so can not be honored. Attendance is taken within the first 10 minutes of the meetup start time. If you arrive after this has taken place, be sure to check in with the meetup leader so that you are not mistakenly marked down as a "No Show".
