What we're about

Death Café is a global social movement which aims to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.
Come and join in a hosted conversation about death and dying over cake and coffee - no experience with death is necessary. We encourage participants to support each other free of any particular conclusion, belief system or course of action.
The Christchurch Death Cafe started early in 2016 and meets on the last Sunday of the month.

Let's get together over a coffee and talk about death and dying

• What we'll do Our Death Cafe is a group-directed conversation about death and dying over coffee and cake. We talk about all sorts of things; funerals, natural burial, AHCPs, aging parents, DIY coffins, death doulas, creative things to do with ashes, books we've read, death in different cultures, assisted dying, near death experiences (NDEs), philosophy and the meaning of life, and our own personal experiences to name a few. We don't promote any particular conclusion, belief system or course of action. • What to bring An open mind, curiousity, and a willingness to join in the conversation. NB. We are able to use the upstairs room at Lotus Heart at no charge, on the basis that we are each buy something from the cafe :-) • I love this quote by Eckhart Tolle: A culture that denies death inevitably becomes shallow and superficial, concerned only with the external form of things. When death is denied, life loses its depth.
