What we're about

Are you Vegetarian or Vegan? Or are you a meat eater who would like to find out more about vegetarian food? The Christchurch Vegan and Vegetarian Group is for anyone: whether you are just tentatively exploring vegetarian options or have been vegan/vegetarian for decades.

This group is run by the Christchurch Vegan Society, we hold a wide range of events for anyone who would like to attend. All of our events are vegan - as vegetarians are able to eat vegan food (vegan food is automatically vegetarian), but vegans cannot eat vegetarian food. This way everyone can feel welcome at our events and can sign up for any event

- For those of you who enjoy a relaxed night out at a restaurant you might enjoy the Vegan Dining Group.

- Would you like to meet new people - then the Pot luck dinners might interest you.

- For those of you who enjoy supporting fundraising efforts - the fundraising dinners are a great experience.

- Are you LBGTQ? - then Veggie Puffs might sound like you?

- Do you prefer to eat raw? - then the Raw vegan group might spark your interest.

- Do you enjoy running/walking? Then Team Vegan could be for you.

- Are you at university - the Uni group might meet your needs.

- Or have we not yet got a group which caters for you - help start one up and we can advertise it on this Meet Up site and also in our weekly newsletter. You might be keen on starting a 25 - 35's single veges group, or a vege tramping group, or ... if you don't want to host a regular group you could host a one off event like; Let's go to the beach for an afternoon Meet Up

For more info you can email info@veganchristchurch.org.nz

- We also host other events; for fundraising and socialising and we'd love to have you along.

Uni lunches Tuesdays AND Fridays

University of Canterbury

Please note Vegan Society doesn't organise this meal. It's a university activity. However, anyone may attend. Here is the information about it:

Vegetarian & Vegan Club Uni lunches:
I'm Peter Commandeur, president of the University Vegetarian Club. We provide twice-weekly vegan curries on campus every Tuesday and Friday 12 – 2pm until October 29. Try to come before 1.15 pm because we occasionally sell out after then.

We will continue every Tuesday & Friday until the end of the university year (last lunch Friday October 29) as long as we stay at Level 1 or Level 2 (not if we go to Level 3 of course). No lunches in uni holiday breaks.

Come to the Living Room lounge next to the Book Shop on campus (University Drive, between Clyde Rd and Ilam Rd).

We offer a $6 vegan curry and rice plus other items like samosas, pakoras, apple pies etc. We serve a different curry each time so you won’t get bored. We employ a professional vegan cook so the food quality is always good. Everyone is welcome, students or non-students.

Please try to bring your own plate/container & spoon (can also take the food away).

We do have disposable ones available for 50 cent charge

The full schedule of dates for this since the university has so many holidays when the lunches are not happening:
Every Tuesday and Friday: Tuesday April 27 to Friday June 11
[Mid Year Break until Tuesday July 20]
Resuming Tuesday July 20 every Tues. & Fri. until Friday 27 August
[Mid-Semester Break until Tues. Sept. 14]
Resuming Tuesday September 14 every Tuesday and Friday until final lunch Friday October 29
[After October 31 = End of Year Exams followed by summer holiday break until last week of February 2022 when lectures resume for 2022]
*****
* please note although I (Alison) am down as attending I won't actually be at the event due to being at work. I am doing this notice to let people know about the event. Raghvendra Agarwal (see "Attendees" below) is a regular attendee to the meal and would be happy to be a meet and greet host for new people, so they have someone to talk with, or please message me and I can make you an event host. This would be very helpful.

Vegan Night Mākete (market) - Winter hrs 3:30 - 7:00pm. Great food, great music.

Are you keen on some good food, not too expensive, and with free entry, to a night market with a great atmosphere?

Would you like to listen to some free live music? There will be a table and benches reserved for the meetup group in front of the live music.

Lots of free parking.

Christchurch's regular vegan night Mākete (market), showcases the best of local plant-based foods and goods, raising awareness of the environmental/animal welfare and health benefits of veganism, and bringing the community together.

Find out more on our Facebook page, Instagram (www.instagram.com/veganmakete) or website: https://veganchristchurch.org.nz/events/vegan-night-makete/
