OVERVIEW: A meandering loop hike in the Seven Tubs Tract of Pinchot State Forest and neighboring PA State Game Lands #292. Considerable variety on this one, including the Seven Tubs (one of the most scenic natural areas in NEPA) ---but so much more! Not your average Seven Tubs hike.

DISTANCE: About 5.5 miles

RATINGS: Mostly MODERATE with some EASY sections, and a few short DIFFICULT spots. Please refer to "Itinerary Ratings" found here >>>

MEET TIME & LOCATION: 9:00 AM @ Seven Tubs Recreation Area Lower Parking Area at the end of Bear Creek Blvd., Wilkes Barre, PA. GPS:[masked],[masked] (41°14'08.7"N 75°48'36.6"W) Click on map to the right >>>

The Seven Tubs Recreation Area is a popular spot, and if the weather is nice the parking areas will fill up quickly, hence the need to start a bit earlier than usual.

ITINERARY: We’ll begin with a lower pass through the enchanting Seven Tubs Nature Area. Then immediately head upstream along beautiful Laurel Run under shady Hemlocks on the Blue and Yellow trails where numerous small waterfalls, cascades, slides and pools punctuate the creek's course. At a 2018 tornado damage zone we’ll head south uphill along a feeder stream, then a short bushwhack to an ATV trail taking us to the top of a rise on the north side of Wyoming Mountain with excellent East-to-West panoramic views. Then into State Game Lands 292 to pick up an unmaintained old haul road along the upper stretches of the aforementioned feeder stream with more cascades, slides and pools, plus a mini glen with short flume suggestive of the Tubs. Proceed to another rise on Wyoming Mountain (short bushwhack included) where an easy game lands road will then lead us to a moderate descent under power lines with more nice views (re. picture above) heading back toward Laurel Run. Lastly we’ll amble along a quiet ridgetop stretch of the Blue/Yellow loop back to the Seven Tubs Nature Area to check out the upper Tubs’ amazing deep pools, slides and flumes to complete the hike.
