Hiking - Stinson Beach to Mt. Tam and back to Stinson Beach! (This, in my opinion, is the best hike in the Bay Area!)
Optional afterwards: Hang out at Stinson Beach and dinner in San Francisco.
Date: Feb 16th, Saturday.
Destination: Stinson Beach-Matt Davis-Steep Ravine trail in Mt. Tam State Park.
Forecast: 68 degrees, partly cloudy.
Distance: About 7 miles.
Elevation change: About 1,500 feet.
Difficulty: About a 5.
Duration: About 4 hours, plus time for hanging out at the beach and dinner afterwards. (The hike will end around 4:00 p.m. and it takes about 2 hours to drive back to SJ.)
Carpool at: 10:00 a.m. at Valley Church, 10885 N. Stelling Road, Cupertino. (Homestead and Stelling)
Trailhead: 11:30 at Belvedere Avenue and Highway 1 in Stinson Beach. No entrance fee, no parking fee. Limited parking, be prepared to park in the town of Stinson Beach.
From US 101 in Marin County, exit CA 1/Mill Valley/Stinson Beach and drive on Shoreline Highway to the junction with Almonte, about 1 mile. Turn left, remaining on Shoreline, and drive about 2.5 miles to the junction with Panoramic Highway. Turn right on Panoramic and drive about 1 mile to the junction with Muir Woods Road; stay straight on Panoramic (right lane). Continue about 7.5 miles (past Pantoll) to the junction with CA 1, just before the town of Stinson Beach. Turn right, drive about 0.2 mile, then turn right, at the fire station, onto Belvedere Avenue. Look for parking on the left side of the road.
Bring: Water, lunch, layered clothing, towel to lay on the sand with, and cash for gas and bridge toll.
