Did you know that just 45 minutes from South San Jose there is a trail with several amazingly beautiful waterfalls? Come join me on a fun weekend camping adventure to enjoy Uvas Canyon campground, a hidden gem in Santa Clara County about 45 minutes from South San Jose. From the Park Website:
Outdoor enthusiasts will find Uvas Canyon Park has much to offer. The park has 7.2 miles of hiking trails including a one mile Waterfall Loop that travels along Swanson Creek past many of the park's waterfalls. This lushly wooded park of 1,147 acres, is nestled in upper Uvas Canyon on the eastern side of the Santa Cruz Mountains. This mountain park offers hiking, camping and picnicking opportunities throughout most of the year.
The plan is to do a quick weekend camping trip, arriving Friday evening and staying until Sunday morning. Saturday morning we will have breakfast before heading out to hit the trails and waterfalls. Lunch will be a picnic on the trail. Saturday evening will be a BBQ potluck and campfire time with Smores, Hot-Chocolate, Jalapeno Popcorn and Coffee (we will bring these items).
We will provide darts, bean bag toss, and bocce ball for kids and adults.
Optional - Preview to Backpacking Class:
For anyone who is interested in going backpacking with us in 2017, this is a great chance to dip your toes in the water! For anyone interested, I'll be doing a mini-introduction to backpacking class where I do a demonstration of backpacking gear, give a brief overview of what our backpacking plans are for the season and question and answer session. This will be informal and optional for those interested.
Yes! Evelyn and I will be bringing both of our girls (ages 10 and 8) and they would love to have someone to play with! We will likely break our hiking groups into two groups to accommodate both fast and slow hikers.
What to Bring:
Food, Tent, Sleeping Bag, Extra Blankets (could be chilly!) Sleeping Pad, Day Pack, Flashlight, Hiking Boots, Layered Clothing, Canteen, Sunscreen, Bug repellent, Toiletries. Snacks or Special Dietary Needs.
Can I Bring my RV?:
Yes, but you must coordinate with me prior to RSVPing. Evelyn and I will be bringing our own truck and camper and we welcome others to do the same. However, each RV will need it's own campsite so please message me so we can discuss details!
The campsite fee is between $60 and $80 per campsite for two nights and will be split between everyone that attends. The maximum per campsite is 8 people so if we fill one campsite that comes to $7.50 to $10 per person. If we have more than 8 people we will have to reserve a second campsite which means we will split that between everyone as well. You can pay in cash when you get to the campsite.
When to RSVP:
The sooner the better! We will be making two campsite reservations in the next couple of weeks to ensure we have enough space for at least 16 people. If more people want to join then it will depend on availability of additional campsites or possibly a group campsite. The sooner you RSVP, the better we can ensure we have the right number of campsites available. We will keep RSVPs open as long as we have space available but please don't wait till the last minute. We will close RSVPs one week prior to give us an accurate headcount for campsites.
