Christmas Private Movie Screening

  • Brooks Hotel

  • Price: EUR10.00 /per person

    Refund policy

  • Ahem... "Die Hard was too long, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that.”

That's my feeble attempt to misuse the opening line of A Christmas Carol to formally announce this cookie-cutter (it is a time for cookie cutters) event at this lovely time of year (which has already started, according to the stores).

Using a Christmas Carol reference seems to have hit a note with people - the results are in, and I'd just like to voice the following sentiment - ahem...

If anyone wants to the see the survey results, I have a spreadsheet with filters and formulas and a partridge in a pear tree.

    ****

Same type of event as our fantastic Hallowe'en Private Screening (well done again Ann!):

    • pay in advance (when you RSVP I'll PM you my bank details) we get to vote on movies suggested. The cinema holds 26.

    • suggest your movies (note: all movies must be less than 2 hours' duration). Movie suggestions will be taken using the comments below.

    • we'll vote on a selection when all the suggestions are in.

We might try to arrange a mini-quiz or some games for after the screening.

***ALL PAYMENTS DUE BY DECEMBER 1ST OR YOU FORFEIT YOUR PLACE***

The event will cost €10 to cover charges and must be paid in advance. There will be no refunds on payment so please be sure you are coming. All payments must be in by December 1st otherwise you forfeit your place. If you don't want to come to the screening or if we run out of places and you'd still like to join us for drinks afterwards you are more than welcome and no payment required! We will be posting a follow-up event for afterwards shortly.

Well you say that, publicly, but I know retribution is coming :-D

      Bad Santa (1h 31 mins)

    • ann

Ah yes but extra points for knowing me so well, the retribution might be less ;-)

  • robert

    Bad Santa
    Home Alone
    National Lampoons Christmas Vacation
    Elf
    Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
    Scrooged

    November 16

  • Charlie

    Bad Santa
    Reindeer Games
    Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
    The Long Kiss Goodnight

    Rare Exports sounds great ...

    3 · November 11

    • Philip D.

The Long Kiss Goodnight unfortunately has a run time of just over two hours so it won't fit in to the time box for which we've secured the cinema, still nice recommendation of Reindeer Games, I'd completely forgotten about that title. Damn, I'm going to have a great list of films to watch at home this festive season, at this rate :-)

      2 · November 12

    • Charlie

Yes, there are a few movies on other people's suggestions that I haven't seen for a while. If Reindeer Games doesn't win I will definitely be watching it again over Christmas. Ditto The Long Kiss Goodnight.

      November 16

  • Danielle

    The Muppet Christmas Carol

Any thoughts on the movie Dave? You'll be missed certainly. I still have a video of us out on the dancefloor on Halloween.

    Batman Returns (2nd choice)
    Joyeux Noel
    Kiss Kiss Bang Bang
    Lethal Weapon
    Die Hard
    Long Kiss Goodnight
    Meet Joe Doe (my vote)
    While You Were Sleeping

    • Chethan D J.

I would love to see Batman returns or Die hard but they seem to be over 2 hours. :(.. Joyeux Noël is probably the next best option for me :)

      2 · November 7

    • Philip D.

Cool list, but Batman Returns, Die Hard, Long Kiss Goodnight, and Meet John Doe are all over two hours long. Still, nice recommendation with Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, that's my own personal Christmas film, and it's been years since I last watched Long Kiss Goodnight, so I may give that a watch myself at home this year too.

Shop around the Corner isn't really Christmassy, is it? It's a fantastic movie.

    • Colin M.

Most of it takes place around Christmas, the ending on Christmas eve. I saw it at the IFI the Christmas before last. Magical.

It's a Wonderful Life. At just under two hours is Trading Places.

Home Alone (probably a bit long), National Lampoons Christmas Vacation, Elf, Scrooged.
