Hi Friends,

I have revamped this group. I am hoping to attract people who are interested in veganism, but also social justice issues and environmentalism and are curious about how these issues intersect. Many people become vegan for health reasons and that it wonderful. Often that leads people down a path where they begin to think about animal rights issues a well as environmental issues. Other social justice issues also intersect with veganism as well as each other, issues such as racism, sexism, ableism, and other forms of discrimination. This group will be taking on a leadership role in organizing a local vegan festival and I believe that including these other justice issues into the mix will help us broaden our audience and deepen our understanding and awareness of the state of the world and what must be addressed to make the world a healthier place for all living beings.

The new name of our group, Circles of Compassion, is a reference to a quote attributed to Einstein*, as well as to a book by this title, which is on the cutting edge of veganism; an area called "intersectionality".  The book is by Dr. Will Tuttle, who is also the author of the World Peace Diet. Both books are highly recommended.

I hope that you stay interested and involved as we move forward in this new direction. Please let me know if you would like to be a co-organizer of the group. It would be nice to have a team of folks developing this group. Also, it would be wonderful to have you participate by offering events that fit into our new mission.

Much gratitude,

Maria

In the past this meetup site had been dedicated to letting folks know about things going on specifically at Dharma Farm Animal Refuge and the vegan event center that I run called Arcadia Lodge. You can keep up with those activities on our Facebook Pages. https://www.facebook.com/Arcadia.Lodge.NC/&...; Arcadia Lodge is also home to the Vegangelical Club and the monthly pop up market called Harmony Marketplace https://www.facebook.com/Harmony.Marketplac...

We will continue to host and announce relevant events at Dharma Farm and Arcadia Lodge on this site.

* "A human being is a part of the whole, called by us "Universe," a part limited in time and space.  He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.  This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us.  Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.  Nobody is able to achieve this completely, but the striving for such achievement is in itself a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security." attributed to Einstien (there is some controversy over whether this was actually written by him, or added to a piece that he wrote later by another person).
