What we’re about

"Minds are like parachutes, they only function when they're open"

- T.R. Dewar

Citizen without Borders is a London-based group committed to creating physical, intellectual, and emotional spaces that enable the exploration and extension of our comfort zones as well as spaces where we build our capabilities - practically, experientially, philosophically, etc. We do this through activities that fuse the arts and sciences into the transactions of everyday life.

Citizens without Borders is about highlighting the power of ordinary people’s capacity to act as civic agents. It is about co-creating purposeful experiences that enrich our understanding of ourselves, the world around us, and our relationship(s) to it. It is about honing our critical thinking and co-creating new ways of knowing.

Our goals:

    To facilitate a journey of inquiry and self discovery so that ultimately we can actively question and critically choose how we experience life;

    To connect citizens with citizens and communities with communities to collectively learn, build experiences and capacity, create solutions, and share skills and knowledge in a way that acknowledges expertise in every individual; and

    To facilitate DIY science and exploration as the scientific practice in which ordinary citizens have ownership over problem definition, data and knowledge by building on collective expertise to use and develop tools and methods to investigate issues of interest and concern to us.

This philosophy stems from the aspirational belief in people's abilities to realise and fulfil their potentials. We aspire to hone our abilities to constructively question the world around us and to consciously reflect on the meaning we choose to give our lives. However, our views are based on the basic assumption that people are willing and able to reflect, learn, extend their comfort zone, and above all, put to question everything they stand for.

"I have the courage to ask "what do I live for? I want to be able to say that I lived my life and challenged myself and gave it all I had; that I explored, discovered, created, and made my mark - that what I did actually mattered" - R. Gerver
